Captain Ann Holahan
Date: 11/14/2008
Fishing Report for November 14th 2008!
The Fishing Report that goes
to all readers and anglers and
I hope to future anglers.
Thanks to all of my anglers
for being patient. I am back on
the water, yes, its true,
with the healing of my rib injury,
I am back fishing.
The weather for has gone back
to a Summerlike pattern this week,
dealing with winds and water temps
in the lower 70's, it has been great.
I also want to wish everyone a Happy
Holiday Season. A safe one too.
But, we have had a great Fall
Fishing Run, and the Winter Fishing can
only be better and busy.
Also, I want to let anglers know,
that I am offering Holiday Incentives
from Nov-Jan1st, for Daily Rates and
Fishing Packages, with discounted rates.
I know fishing can be expensive especially
as our economy is not a realiable one,
I want to rest assure the anglers a good
and fun and memorable time they spend
here in the Keys to be a cost effective
one too.
Just call me directly, at 305-664-5891,
and ask Capt. Ann about the Holiday Incentive
Plan for daily rates and fishing charter packages.
Snook Season is open, but will be closing
December 15th, and will reopen on Feb. 1st,
but you can still catch and release them also. and hopefully,
But, since its coming into the Winter
Months, and don't Forget Spring Fishing
is around the corner, we expect our
Winter fishing to be a blast.
It has been hot with windy conditions,
and I always like to remind the anglers
to bring a foul weather jacket, dress
comfortably, and always make sure to
put a foul weather day in your schedule
just in case, you can not handle some of
the wind speeds we have had. Also, I like
to to remind all anglers to make sure they
hydrate and bring good sunblock with them, for
the water acts like a mirror and sunburns are not fun
when your on vacation.
There are a few tarpon still around in
early morning by the bridges and channels,
but alot of the tarpon bite has faded, and
and there are some bites in the backcountry
and some in the late evenings for the tarpon.
On fly the bonefish have been sighted and caught and
released oceanside on the sand patches, and the
bonefish was superb last week, and tails were every
where, unfortuately, my anglers could not get close
enough to them, they were on a trek for feeding and
moving off the flats very quickly. The casts that we
had, put us in less than 6" of water, and they too pushed
off the flat, the water was running out fast, but we
sure gave it the college try, also on light tackle it
was tough, and all we can say is we tried hard.
Backcountry fishing has been good with reports of
alot of redfish, trout, big sharks, snapper, and snook, and
some shots at some permit a bit closer into the park.
Flamingo has no gas, so make sure your guides have
an extra gas can aboard for that run way back there,
there is no gas at Flamingo yet, they are still cleaning
up from the spill they had over there, and should have
gas in the next few weeks we hope.
The offshore for the anglers are enjoying
the sailfishing, yellowtail, dolphin,
fishing. Along with tuna, kingfish,
and cobia.
Winter fishing is going off like
a hitch, I cannot believe it is already
November, and Winter is around the corner, and
what a blast we are going on to have
in all areas of fishing from bonefishing,
permit, and most of all the snook bite.
and the backcountry should be exploding
with the great reports of fishing has been
with catches and releases of redfish, trout,
bonefish, snook, trout, jack crevelle, ladyfish,
sharks, and permit, and snapper,
all kind of rod benders.
Also, I want to let you know I am joining
the tagging and release program for bonefish
and tarpon, and very excited to work with
this great research on how, when, and where
all these fish get caught and released in
all areas of the waters.
It is an exciting program, and constitutes my
catch and release practices.
Lobster season is open, and what a great
time for eating those delicious and rich
foods you all like to indulge in.
But, What a way to finish out Fall
and look forward to the Winter and
don't forget our Spring Fishing for
Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit in 2009.
But, now lets keep in Fall and Winter
mind, that Winter is here and
anglers from all over are calling for trips
and dates for the 2009 season, and the
dates are getting full and limited, so
make sure you call well in advance for
your trips, we want you to get the days
you want to fish, but if I get overbooked,
I can always try to set you up with
other guides, and try to put you in
for an afternoon trip or evening trip if available.
We still have days open, so don't hesitate to make
your bookings for 2009, no later than the end of December
to get the dates you want. Our repeat anglers start
locking in their dates for flyfishing and live bait fishing.
In Everglades National Park the snook
season opened on March 1st, not Feb 1st,
the Feb 1st season is only for the Atlantic
side, the park has changed the opening
to March 1st. Snook season is closed May,
June, July, and August for the Park,
and for Atlantic Coast June-August.
So, get your gear ready and there have
been reports of some large snook.
The Park is exploding with alot
of snook and redfish being caught
and released and some taken back
for dinner. But, the season reopens
will reopen March 1st.
Also, I want to make perfectly
clear to all my readers and anglers
that I am no longer affiliated with
the marina. If you call there, you
will be told I am no longer there,
and how can they help you to set you
up with one of their guides that are
slow, and/or be told I am out of business,
or am not fishing no longer, Not True!!

all the good well wishes I have received. I just want
to thank all of you again, that I honestly, thank you
all very much that I was happy to have accomodated each

And I assure you that I will be on the water for the season

for a really bad injury, but the injury is healing and
it better, and I may need your help with just a bit of assistance, but I am looking forward to seeing you all and fishing with you this upcoming months. You and I and your party will definitely will
not be far off the waters of Islamorada. Again, I am back
to work, and ready for my anglers to be back
on the bow of my boat searching and stalking any and all
saltwater species they would like to go for.
So, please again direct all your phone calls to Capt. Ann Holahan,
so your not placed with another guide or told I am out of business,
and not rightly given my phone number, so your placed
with another guide that is starting out and slow, you
can contact me directly, so you ensure I am in business,
just a different local, and you can reach me a at 305-664-5891,
or 305-664-5793, and you an email me directly at captann@boneranger.com, and aquaint yourself
with my website at www.boneranger.com.
Don't mean to reiterate, but Make sure all you anglers coming to the Keys to visit and to fish, especially for the our young visitors and fisherman, have plenty of sunblock, and lots of water and gatorade to replace those lost electrolites we loose through the extensive heat. Most important, don't forget those hats, and breathable clothing so you can stay as cool and comfortable as the temps rise up.
I have to say, this has been an auspicious Winter and Spring
here in the Florida Keys. I don't remember it being so hot, but
I think every season we all say it is hotter than last year.
Bonefishing has been good and spotty this month, all over the
place on bayside and oceanside, this has been one of the
best months for those screaming reels, and elsuive bonefish,
and the bite is getting better everyday, and anglers are
catching and releasing some big fish on light tackle and
on fly, although flyfishing is tough, they have been nailing
the big ones. Also, the bonefishing has been especially good
in the late afternoon, and the best bite on shrimp, our
Winter shrimp are here, and those delicious shrimp are being
gobbled up by all species. You can also use a jig tipped
with shrimp, so make sure you use those days that are not
too windy and make sure to use them to your advantage.
With flyfishing or dead baits or even small crabs, they
are not too fussy, they are opportunistic, and they will
eat pretty much what you will toss ahead of them.
but we are getting some nice size live bait shrimp, when
they are not too big, we can always use but quarter
size crabs or DOA crabs have presented to be a great bite
for the bonefish, but the best tip, of course on light tackle,
is the shrimp, and make sure you go when the bite has been great in the early morning and evening just before sunset.
Remember also, if you have a bonefish on don't horse the fish,
let him take the line, and make sure you put your rod in the
air as high as you can get it, or you will end up reeling against
the drag and lose the catch you long waited for. Then slowly
reel the rod tip up and reel down, and repeat as your guide
directs you. Always listen to your guide.
The water in Florida Bay is still very warm, and the bite there too
has been a great. Although, you are still looking and trying to find the muds for trout, jack crevelle, snapper, redfish, snook
and sharks.
Needless to say, the fishing has been
fair to good, but everyday is different
here in the Keys, on the flats and backcountry.
Season for lobstering opens August 6th. So,
bring your tickle sticks, and measuring devices. It
is a great way to enjoy a day on the water, and of
course, dinner.
Also, don't forget Snook season is closing, it reopens
Feb. 1st, on the Atlantic side, but has opened
in the park on March 1st, just want to let you all know
of the change, and if you need to check out the closed
seasons, go to my homepage, and you will see the link
for the Florida Wildlife Conservation for all information needed.
I expect the snook season to be productive with some
great fights and bites whether on fly or light tackle, make sure
you get your gear and baits ready for these true bruisers and stay within the regulation limits.
Stone Crab season is also open, so don't forget to go to
your favorite restaurants and have some great crab either
hot or cold, and that will leave you wanting more. But closes
May 16-Oct. 14th, 2008.
Don't forget the next season tarpon trips for the 2009 season, and
is a real experience and a great idea for those looking for some great fights, and to experience the shuttle launching
off with these beautiful fish, and what a rush to get one on fly or
live bait. Also, it gives you all a chence to see our beautiful sunsets for the wives, or girlfriends, or even for the diehard fisherman that want to duke it out with those expolsive and beautiful
fish.
Bonefishing Tournaments will start in Mid-September for you
bonefish enthusiasts. So, any anglers interested in upcoming events. Please email me, or give me a call at 305-664-5891, and I will give you all the information your looking for.
I hope all my Readers and Anglers have had a Great
Time Fishing and Had Some Tight lines.
But, I want to let everyone know we all had a good time and enjoyed
having each and everyone of you all aboard my skiff, and hope to see you all come back fishing.
Every year, I keep saying time surely does fly by and
can you believe it, Fall fishing is over, and Winter fishing is right around the corner, and what a variety of fishing we will all have. So, please don't wait till the last minute to get your bookings in, days do fill up, and I want to give everyone the experience and dates they would like to enjoy the fishing, and even the beautiful birds, dolphin, and islands here in the Keys.
Don't forget to book in advance for any trips you will like
to do with the family, spouses, kids, or with your friends, we can
set you up with extra boats for bachelor parties, corporate tournaments, family get togethers, friendly fishing
tournaments, and most of all, just lots of fun with each other, and the ones you love.
It does get busy for the holiday season, and I would like everyone
to get the dates they are looking for. Again, don't forget the
Holiday Incentives I am offering for the Holiday Season for
Gifts, and just for anglers to be able to enjoy a low price,
and some great fishing on the water, in the hard times of
money and trying to enjoy a vacation.
I am getting alot of calls and emails about the upcoming
Winter season, and for Spring 2009, and you should definitely make
sure to be making your reservations now, so that ensures you get
the dates you want, and lock in the time frame, for those
glorious evening trips that are available.

are answered promptly and correctly with any questions you may all have.
Remember we get full fast, and it is good to start planning now, and
get a jump on the dates you have in mind, which is also good idea
for our fly anglers too. Season usually starts late March, and
April and runs through July.
Specifically again, if any anglers are interested
in some of the tournaments that are around, we still have
some going on, please go to my website for updated
tournament information at www.boneranger.com.
Some of the Winter and Spring Bonefish tournaments
are available, so if your interested in any tournament information or just coming down and getting yourself a fix on fly or light tackle, the Fall and Winter fishing, it is aways a great time for
saltwater gamefishing, and meeting new anglers and friends.
That is the time of year when the flyfisherman
and live bait anglers are battling
it out with the big fish.
It never stops to amaze me the enthusiasm my anglers show
whether it is on fly or live bait or even light tackle for
our elusive gamefish.
Patch fishing fishing should pick up immensely, being the
Winter is here, andthe water is still a bit warm, and should
prove the fishing to provide well.
You can get out if the winds are not too prevelent on the flats
boat, in which we can get some snapper, grouper, hogfish, porgies, sharks, and yellowtail are being caught up on the patches of the reef.
There are many anglers here from all over the world, challenging their skills from fly to light tackle, which is wonderful
to see them enjoy and learn new skills.
Whether you challenge your skills on fly or live bait or light tackle, it is great fun to be out in the sun, and getting
that adreline rushing with some really great fish, and
releasing some really big fish from all the different species.

rush.

zipping out in less than a minute. It is a true rush.
I cannot describe the feeling, until you actually
hook up. But, let me tell you, that it is one of
the most fasinating, and intriging experiences
you could ever have, whether on fly or light tackle,
it will have your heart racing, and have a lump
in your throat, and a smile on your face, when
you hook up! There is no screaming, just your

Captain Ann Holahan
Date: 9/8/2008
Fishing Report for September 8th, 2008!
The Fishing Report that goes
to all readers and anglers and
I hope to future anglers.
Thanks to all of my anglers
for being patient. I am back on
the water, yes, its true,
with the healing of my rib injury,
I am back.
The weather for Summer, has
been just like Summer, very hot
days in the low 90's, and
water temperatures in the low
80's, just like bath water.
But, now it is Hurricane Season,
First we had Faye brush us, then
a little bit from Gustav, and now
here comes Ike Turner Band.
We have had our fair share of
tropical storms, and hurricane
hypes, and sending our anglers
and tourists to higher ground.
But, we have had a great Summer
Fishing Run, and Fall is not
behind.
Snook Season is open, and hopefully,
after the storm passes, our anglers
will return for some great fishing
in Everglades National Park, and
for some great bonefishing, and
tournaments that will be amongst
us.
But, since its Summer, that is
what we expect every season.
It has been hot with winds out
of the East, Southeast and in the
lower 90's, its and oven out there,
and like to remind all anglers to
make sure they hydrate and bring good
sunblock with them, for the water acts
like a mirror and sunburns are not fun
when your on vacation.
We have finally got a bit of much needed
rain here for a few weeks, but, I don't like
to see that for the anglers.
There are a few tarpon still around in
early morning by the bridges and channels,
but alot of the tarpon bite has faded, and
shall return some bites in the backcountry
and to some late evenings for the tarpon.
On fly the tarpon have been sighted and caught and
released oceanside on the sand patches, and the
bonefish was superb last week, and tails were every
where, unfortuately, my anglers could not get close
enough to them, they were on a trek for feeding and
moving off the flats very quickly. The casts that we
had, put us in less than 6" of water, and they too pushed
off the flat, the water was running out fast, but we
tried.
Backcountry fishing has been good with reports of
alot of redfish, trout, big sharks, and snook, and
some shots at some permit a bit closer into the park.
Flamingo has no gas, so make sure your guides have
an extra gas can aboard for that run way back there,
there is no gas at Flamingo yet, they are still cleaning
up from the spill they had over there, and should have
gas in the next few weeks we hope.
The offshore for the anglers are enjoying
the sailfishing, yellowtail, dolphin,
fishing. Along with tuna, kingfish,
and cobia.
Summer fishing is going off like
a hitch, I cannot believe it is already
September, and Fall is around the corner, and
what a blast we are going on to have
in all areas of fishing from bonefishing,
permit, and most of all the snook bite.
and the backcountry should be exploding
with the great reports of fishing has been
with catches and releases of redfish, trout,
bonefish, snook, trout, jack crevelle, ladyfish,
sharks, and permit, and snapper,
all kind of rod benders.
Also, I would like to congratulate Jim Ha and his son
Andrew who was a pleasure to fish with. Jim won photo
of the week with our local newspaper with a 40lb permit
caught in Islamorada. He won a free dinner for 2 and
we had a little write up in the paper. You can view it
for yourself in my scrapbook on the homepage, or you
can go to the site at www.weeklyfisherman.net, and schroll
to the issue on July 17th, 2008, and go to page 3 and page
19 on the bottom right hand corner for the write up.
His son Andrew took the pictures and he too did a great
job we had a school of bonefish, which was a bit difficult
to see for them, but, they did have some shots, but again,
those elusive fish are fast and furious once you miss the
shot, as I always say, you only get one or two shots if your
lucky with those gray ghosts, but Andrew did catch several
nice size bonnethead sharks, one weighed in at 12lbs. Great
Job Guys, and hope to see all of you back next season.
Lobster season is open, and what a great
time for eating those delicious and rich
foods you all like to indulge in.
But, What a way to finsih out Summer and

your trips, we want you to get the days
you want to fish, but if I get overbooked,
I can always try to set you up with
other guides, and try to put you in

season opened on March 1st, not Feb 1st,

Don't mean to reiterate, but Make sure all you anglers coming to the Keys to visit and to fish, especially for the our young visitors and fisherman, have plenty of sunblock, and lots of water and gatorade to replace those lost electrolites we loose through the extensive heat. Most important, don't forget those hats, and breathable clothing so you can stay as cool and comfortable as the temps rise up.
I have to say, this has been an auspicious Winter and Spring
here in the Florida Keys. I don't remember it being so hot, but
I think every season we all say it is hotter than last year.
The water temperatures have warmed up into the mid-80's
it feels like a bath, but again the best bite will be early
morning, and late evening hook ups.
Bonefishing has been spectacular this month, all over the
place on bayside and oceanside, this has been one of the
best months for those screaming reels, and elsuive bonefish,
and the bite is getting better everyday, and anglers are
catching and releasing some big fish on light tackle and
on fly, although flyfishing is tough, they have been nailing
the big ones. Also, the bonefishing has been especially good
in the late afternoon, and the best bite on shrimp, our
Spring shrimp has been alot to be desired on somedays, and
now with Summer being here, there will be little or no
shrimp, so make sure you use those days to your advantage
with flyfishing or dead baits or even small crabs, they
are not too fussy, they are opportunistic, and they will
eat pretty much what you will toss ahead of them.
but we are getting some nice size live bait shrimp, when
they are not too big, we can always use but quarter
size crabs or DOA crabs have presented to be a great bite
for the bonefish, but the best tip, of course on light tackle,
is the shrimp, and make sure you go when the bite has been great in the early morning and evening just before sunset.
Also, don't forget Snook season is closed, it reopens
September 1st, on the Atlantic side, but has opened
in the park on May 1st, just want to let you all know
of the change, and if you need to check out the closed
seasons, go to my homepage, and you will see the link
for the Wildlife Conservation for all information needed.
Every year, I keep saying time surely does fly by and
can you believe it, Spring fishing is over, and Fall and
Winter fishing is right around the corner, and what a variety of fishing we will all have.
I am getting alot of calls and emails about the upcoming
Fall and Winter season, and for 2009, and you should definitely make
sure to be making your reservations now, so that ensures you get
the dates you want, and lock in the time frame, for those
glorious evening trips that are available.
Don't forget to go to my website for those great fishing charter
packages I offer, and give me a call at 305-664-5891, or drop
me a line at captann@boneranger.com, and I will ensure your emails
are answered promptly and correctly with any questions you may all have.
Some of the Spring and Summer Bonefish tournaments
are available, so if your interested in any tournament information or just coming down and getting yourself a fix on fly or light tackle, the Fall and Winter fishing, it is aways a great time for
saltwater gamefishing, and meeting new anglers and friends.
That is the time of year when the flyfisherman
and live bait anglers are battling
it out with the big fish.
It never stops to amaze me the enthusiasm my anglers show
whether it is on fly or live bait or even light tackle for
our elusive gamefish.
Patch fishing fishing should pick up immensely, being the
Spring and Summer has been warm, the Fall and Winter
fishing will prove well.
Don't forget I also offer Flyfishing Instruction, with the one to one basis, it makes the pleasure of learning the fly
fishing techniques alot of fun, and a way to challenge yourself with our saltwater gamefish.
Also, I just added a new package for flyfishing instruction and

fishing lesson and sometime on the water. Just drop me a line,
or call me at 305-664-5891, and check it out on my website

Captain Ann Holahan
Date: 8/7/2008
Fishing Report for August 7th, 2008!
The Fishing Report that goes
to all readers and anglers and
I hope to future anglers.
Thanks to all of my anglers
for being patient. I am back on
the water, yes, its true,
with the healing of my rib injury,
I am back.
The weather for Summer, has
been just like Summer, very hot
days in the low 90's, and
water temperatures in the low
80's, just like bath water.
But, since its Summer, that is
what we expect every season.
It has been hot with winds out
of the East, Southeast and in the
lower 90's, its and oven out there,
and like to remind all anglers to
make sure they hydrate and bring good
sunblock with them, for the water acts
like a mirror and sunburns are not fun
when your on vacation.
We have finally got a bit a rain here
last night and today, which is much needed,
but, I don't like to have that for the anglers.
The fishing has been fantastic early in the mornings,
and late in the evenings for the tarpon bite.
On fly the tarpon have been sighted and caught and
released oceanside on the sand patches, and the
bonefish was superb last week, and tails were every
where, unfortuately, my anglers could not get close
enough to them, they were on a trek for feeding and
moving off the flats very quickly. The casts that we
had, put us in less than 6" of water, and they too pushed
off the flat, the water was running out fast, but we
tried.
The tarpon bite has been better in the later part of night time,
biting on dead mullet, crabs and pilchards.
August, and Fall is around the corner, and
what a blast we are going on to have
in all areas of fishing from bonefishing,
and most of all the tarpon season
is going to slow down a bit, and the backcountry
fishing has been great with catches
and releases of redfish, trout, snook, lots of
sharks, and permit, and snapper,
all kind of rod benders.
I would like to congratulate Rocky and Gerritt on
some great fishing with nailing a 130lb tarpon on
a night bite out of Papa Joes Marina, and nailing
some big sharks and jewfish with some power housing
on those big brutes. We had some shots at a few
bonefish groups, and tailing bonefish, but they were
moving fast on the falling tide and unfortuately could
not get to them with the light tackle line. The were
on an adventure all there own.
Also we just go over mini-lobster season. It was
pretty busy here, and had a few divers pass, and
season opened on the 6th of August. So,to all you
divers and snorkelers, please have the right equipment
and flags, and don't dive or snorkel where there is alot
of boat traffic, and always have a buddy with you, and
be alert at all times for legal size lobsters, and again,
be careful on the water with boats, jetskis, and make
sure you have the correct size flags for your boats.
Good luck, and good eating.
What a way to start out Summer and
look forward to the Fall Fishing.
But, now lets keep in Fall and Winter
mind, that nd Summer is here and
anglers from all over are calling for trips
and dates for the 2009 season, and the
dates are getting full and limited, so
make sure you call well in advance for
your trips, we want you to get the days
you want to fish, but if I get overbooked,
I can always try to set you up with
other guides, and try to put you in
for an afternoon trip or evening trip if available.
In Everglades National Park the snook
season opened on March 1st, not Feb 1st,
the Feb 1st season is only for the Atlantic
side, the park has changed the opening
to March 1st. Snook season is closed May,
June, July, and August for the Park,
and for Atlantic Coast June-August.
So, get your gear ready and there have
been reports of some large snook.
The Park is exploding with alot
of snook and redfish being caught
and released and some taken back
for dinner. But, the season reopens
will reopen September 1st.
Also, I want to make perfectly
clear to all my readers and anglers
that I am no longer affiliated with
the marina. If you call there, you
will be told I am no longer there,
and how can they help you to set you
up with one of their guides that are
slow, and/or be told I am out of business,
or am not fishing no longer, Not True!!

to thank all of you again, that I honestly, thank you
all very much that I was happy to have accomodated each

And I assure you that I will be on the water for the season
giving the go by the doctor, be careful, as I am being treated
for a really bad injury, but the injury is healing and
it better, and I may need your help with just a bit of assistance, but I am looking forward to seeing you all and fishing with you this upcoming months. You and I and your party will definitely will
not be far off the waters of Islamorada. Again, I am back
to work, and ready for my anglers to be back
on the bow of my boat searching and stalking any and all
saltwater species they would like to go for.
So, please again direct all your phone calls to Capt. Ann Holahan,
so your not placed with another guide or told I am out of business,
and not rightly given my phone number to contact me, so you
can reach me a at 305-664-5891, or 305-664-5793, and you
an email me directly at captann@boneranger.com, and aquaint yourself
with my website at www.boneranger.com.
There are reports that there are tarpon around the bridges and channels, and taking some great bites on mullet, and
pilchards, and pinfish, also the tarpon around the main channels
and deep holes out in Everglades National Park, but the bite
has still been a bit sporadic, we still have a few residentials
around oceanside taking some small crabs, Doa's and had a few hits
on the Burkley Gulp shrimp.
But closes
May 16-Oct. 14th, 2008.
Don't forget the next season tarpon trips for the 2009 season, and
is a real experience and a great idea for those looking for some great fights, and to experience the shuttle launching
off with these beautiful fish, and what a rush to get one on fly or
live bait. Also, it gives you all a chence to see our beautiful sunsets for the wives, or girlfriends, or even for the diehard fisherman that want to duke it out with those expolsive and beautiful
fish.

Captain Ann Holahan
Date: 6/19/2008
Fishing Report for June 19th, 2008!
The Fishing Report that goes
to all readers and anglers and
I hope future anglers.
Thanks to all of my anglers
for being patient. I am back on
the water, yes, its true,
with the healing of my rib injury,
I am back.
The weather for Spring, has
been just like Summer, and
with Summer just a few weeks
away, we have had a warmest Spring
to say the least.
It has been hot with winds out
of the East, Southeast and in the
lower 80's, its and oven out there,
and like to remind all anglers to
make sure they hydrate and bring good
sunblock with them, for the water acts
like a mirror and sunburns are not fun
when your on vacation.
We have finally got a bit a rain here
last night and today, which is much needed,
but, I don't like to have that for the anglers.
I am in empathy for all those people that are
in the floods of the old Miss, and can abate that
situation, for we know how that feels when Wilma
hit us not too long ago.
The casts that we
had, put us in less than 6" of water, and they too pushed
off the flat, the water was running out fast, but we
tried.
The tarpon bite has been great later in the night time,
biting on dead mullet, crabs and pilchards.
The offshore for the anglers are enjoying
the sailfishing, yellowtail, dolphin,
fishing. Along with tuna, kingfish,
and cobia.
Spring fishing is going off like
a hitch, I cannot believe it is already
June, and July is around the corner, and what a blast going on
in all areas of fishing from bonefishing,
and most of all the tarpon season
is going to slow down a bit, and the backcountry
fishing has been great with catches
and releases of redfish, trout, snook, lots of
sharks, and permit, and snapper,
all kind of rod benders.
What a way to start our Spring and
Summer Fish. But, now lets keep in
mind, that Spring and Summer is here and
anglers from all over are calling for trips
and dates for the 2009 season, and the
dates are getting full and limited, so
make sure you call well in advance for
your trips, we want you to get the days
you want to fish, but if I get overbooked,
I can always try to set you up with
other guides, and try to put you in
for an afternoon trip or evening trip if available.
In Everglades National Park the snook
season opened on March 1st, not Feb 1st,
the Feb 1st season is only for the Atlantic
side, the park has changed the opening
to March 1st. Snook season is closed May,
June, July, and August for the Park,
and for Atlantic Coast June-August.
So, get your gear ready and there have
been reports of some large snook.
The Park is exploding with alot
of snook and redfish being caught
and released and some taken back
for dinner. But, the season reopens
will reopen September 1st.
Also, I want to make perfectly
clear to all my readers and anglers
that I am no longer affiliated with
the marina. If you call there, you
will be told I am no longer there,
and how can they help you to set you
up with one of their guides that are
slow, and/or be told I am out of business,
or am not fishing no longer, Not True!!
I am happy to say I am docked now at
Papa Joe's Backcountry Marina, and glad
to be amongst World Class Guides, and
do me a favor, Please call me directly,

I am still fishing and everyday getting
my ribs into strength to show you all

own terms with all my anglers and repeat
anglers, and future anglers. Rest assured
I am looking forward to getting you on
the bow of my boat, and I am back on the water,
and enthusiastic to get you all stalking and searching

for a really bad injury, but the injury is healing and
it better, and I may need your help with just a bit of assistance, but I am looking forward to seeing you all and fishing with you this upcoming months. You and I and your party will definitely will
not be far off the waters of Islamorada. Again, I am back
to work, and ready for my anglers to be back

Captain Ann Holahan
Date: 3/3/2008
Fishing Report for March 3rd, 2008!
To All My Readers and Anglers,
Thanks to all of my anglers
for being patient. I am going
back on the water, yes, its true,
with the healing of my rib injury,
we are coming back.
The weather has still
been just like Summer,
we have had a warm Winter
to say the least.
We have had here with a few windy days
and a couple of light cold fronts
but the fishing has been fantastic.
Especially with the East to South
East winds, it has been a bit windy
to srart off this past weekend,
bonefishing has been a bit difficult
with the winds, but the offshore captains
have reported all the anglers are enjoying
the sailfishing, yellowtail, dolphin,
fishing. Along with tuna, kingfish,
and cobia.
Winter fishing is going off like
a hitch and what a blast going on
in all areas of fishing from bonefishing,
redfish, trout, snook, lots of
sharks, and permit, and snapper,
all kind of rod benders.
What a way to start our Winter
Fishing. But, now lets keep in
mind, that Spring is only 3 weeks
away.
Tarpon Season is going to be explosive
this season, as for the bonefish and
permit fishing.
In Everglades National Park the snook
season opened on March 1st, not Feb 1st,
the Feb 1st season is only for the Atlantic
side, the park has changed the opening
to March 1st.
So, get your gear ready and there have
been reports of some large snook.
The Park is exploding with alot
of snook and redfish being caught
and released and some taken back
for dinner. But, the season closes
May, June, July, and August, and
will reopen September 1st.
I just want to reiterate, what
I wrote previously. I am having
fun trying new gounds and working
on my own terms.
Also, I want to make perfectly
clear to all my readers and anglers
that I am no longer affiliated with
my marina. Please do not call there
for you can reach me directly at
305-664-5891 or 305-664-5793, or
you can drop me a line via my email
at captann@boneranger.com, and please
visit my website at www.boneranger.com
I am exploring new grounds and on my
own terms with all my anglers and repeat
anglers, and future anglers. Rest assured
I am looking forward to getting you on
the bow of my boat, and I am looking
to get back on the water, and enthusiastic
to get you all stalking and searching
for the best saltwater gamefish available
here in Islamorada, Florida Keys.
I am picking up anglers at the Marina,
and am pleased too still offer that service,
but would like you just to call me directly
for all bookings for your group trips, fishing
charter packages, daily bookings, corporate
bookings, whatever you need I will ensure you
get the best service and the best of guides,
whether for flats or backcountry fishing or
offshore fishing.
Lets enjoy the beauty, fish, and most
of all the wonderful island chain we call
The Fabulous Florida Keys. I also want to let
you know I am know offering eco-tours.
You can obtain more information on
my website pertaining to the eco-tours,
and you can call me with any questions
you may have.
I have still been out with a rib injury for several months,
and have been honest and forthright with all my anglers
via the fishing reports and phone calls, and appreciate
all the good well wishes I have received. I just want
to thank all of you, honestly, very much that I was happy
to have accomodated each and every angler with a well reputable guide or guides.
And I assure you that I will be on the water for the season
giving the go by the doctor, be careful, as I am being treated
for a really bad injury, but the injury is starting to heal, and get better, and I may need your help with just a bit of assistance, but I am looking forward to seeing you all and fishing with you this upcoming month. I and your party will definitely will
not be far off the waters of Islamorada. I will be back
to work, and ready for my anglers to be back
on the bow of my boat searching and stalking any and all
saltwater species they would like to go for.
So, please direct all your phone calls to Capt. Ann Holahan,
at 305-664-5891, or 305-664-5793, and you can email me
directly at captann@boneranger.com, and aquaint yourself
with my website at www.boneranger.com.
We have had very Hot and Sunny Days with winds generally out
of the East, and Southeast, we have had some windy weekends
and some rain, but it has not hampered the spirits of all anglers
coming to the Keys to fish our great saltwater gamefish, but
the heat index and with the temperatures in the low 80's,
you can definitely fry an egg.
Make sure all you anglers coming to the Keys to visit and to fish,
especially for the our young visitors and fisherman, have plenty of sunblock, and lots of water and gatorade to replace those lost electrolites we loose through the extensive heat. Most
important, don't forget those hats, and breathable clothing
so you can stay as cool and comfortable as the temps rise up.
I have to say, this has been an auspicious Winter here in
the Florida Keys. I don't remember it being so hot, but
I think every season we all say it is hotter than last year.
There have been reports that there are still a few tarpon around the bridges and channels, and taking some great bites on mullet, and
pilchards, and pinfish, also the tarpon around the main channels
and deep holes out in Everglades National Park, but the bite
has still been a bit sporadic, we still have a few residentials
around oceanside taking some small crabs, Doa's and had a few hits
on the Burkley Gulp shrimp.
The best tarpon bite is on its way, and do not want any
anglers to miss the best time for the bites, which really
doing best in the early morning and evening hours.
The water temperatures have dipped a bit due to a cold front
over the weekend, and the fish have been a bit lathargic,
but, as the daily warm ups become more frequent, the
light tackle fishing has been a bit difficult,
and for the filyfisherman with the wind.
Also, the bonefishing has been especially good
in the late afternoon, and the best bite on shrimp, our
Winter shrimp has been alot to be desired on somedays,
for we haven't had alot of cold front, but quarter
size crabs or DOA crabs have presented to be a great bite
for the bonefish, but the best tip, of course on light tackle,
is the shrimp, and make sure you go when the bite has been great in the early morning and evening just before sunset.
Remember also, if you have a bonefish on don't horse the fish,
let him take the line, and make sure you put your rod in the
air as high as you can get it, or you will end up reeling against
the drag and lose the catch you long waited for.
But, the bite has certainly picked up, and we have had reports
this past week with some great catches and releases
of several sizes of bonefish.
The water in Florida Bay is still a bit green, and the bite there too
has been a bit tough. Although, you are still finding muds for
trout, jack crevelle, snapper, and sharks.
Needless to say, the fishing has been
fair to good, but everyday is different
here in the Keys, on the flats and backcountry.
Lobster season is here, so please, beware of dive
flags and snorkelers when boating around the bridges
and channel ways. We do not want to have any bad diving accidents or
boat accidents occur.
The Keys were buzzing with alot of divers
and snorkelers, you would think it was a
holiday season. It was great weather, and calm
seas. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and
followed the rules and laws.
Season for lobstering opened August 1st. So,
bring your tickle sticks, and measuring devices. It
is a great way to enjoy a day on the water, and of
course, dinner.
Also, don't forget Snook season is open, it reopened
September 1st, on the Atlantic side, but has opened
in the park on March 1st, just want to let you all know
of the change, and if you need to check out the closed
seasons, go to my homepage, and you will see the link
for the Wildlife Conservation for all information needed.
The snook season will be closed starting May 1st, until
September 1st, but you can still catch and release those
powerful fish.
Don't forget the evening tarpon trips for the 2008 season, and
is a real experience and a great idea for those looking for some great fights, and to experience the shuttle launching
off with these beautiful fish, and what a rush to get one on fly or
live bait. Also, it gives you all a chence to see our beautiful sunsets for the wives, or girlfriends, or even for the diehard fisherman that want to duke it out with those expolsive and beautiful
fish.
Bonefishing Tournaments will start in April, May, and June. So, any anglers interested in upcoming events. Please email me, or give me a call at 305-664-5891, and I will give you all the information your looking for.
I hope all my Readers and Anglers have had a Great
Time Fishing and Had Some Tight lines.
But, I want to let everyone know we all had a good time and enjoyed
having each and everyone of you all aboard our skiffs, and hope to see you all come back fishing.
Every year, I keep saying time surely does fly by and
can you believe it, Winter fishing is over, and Spring fishing
is right around the corner, and what a variety of fishing we will all have.
I am getting alot of calls and emails about the upcoming

let you feel the thrill of hooking up the species of choice, whether its bonefish, tarpon, or permit, you may be the winner and lucky
enough to grab that Grand Slam!!!
Whichever you decide to experience, it all has been an exciting and
great way to spend a day with the family or with your friends, wife,
or girlfriend. All I can say is the fishing has been at its best,
and challenging anglers to all aspects of fishing.
So your fishing is not limited to anyone
species. With all year round fishing, you
just cannot miss, especially the Fall and Winter
fishing coming back up, you can challenge a
number of species.
Whether your flyfishing for bonefish,
permit, redfish, or light tackle fishing
for the same species, the effect will have
you hooked for years to come, and where
else but, Paradise, can we achieve such
tremendous catches and releases.
What a great way to enjoy the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous Florida Keys! You definitely
will enjoy the experience and challenge of the Sportfishing
Capital of the World.
If you decide to book a backcountry
trip, don't forget before heading out
into the backcountry in Everglades National
Park, don't forget your cameras to
take some grand pictures of some of
the most intriguing birds, the beautiful
porpoises, turtles, and of
course the fish of the day you caught.

I hate to keep reiterating, but I do offer

and what an experience for either
the beginner fisherman, novice fisherman,

a day on the water. It is the
growing trend, to stalk these
gamefish on fly and what a wonderful
sport it is, and a great way for
some great hand and eye coordination
for you to learn how to cast to these
beautiful fish! What memories you and
your fishing companion to experience
together, or you can make
it a family event, and ladies don't
forget, we too make it as a
great pasttime for ourselves
to pick up the fly, and surprise
yourself how enjoyable and
challenging it really is.
Isn't that what it is all about, the grandure
and power of all of these great saltwater gamefish,
whether you choose bonefish, tarpon or permit, the
memories are there forever!
