Fishing Report for October 10th, 2001

I am glad to see our Patriotism
Rising, and Happy to see our
anglers not being detoured from
the Horrific events from last
month.

I would like to thank all the
Keys Residents and Tourists
for showing their support
for the families and victims
of Sept. 11th. America is
strong, and resilient, and
personally I feel a whole lot
safer with them in our world
and our quest for peace! Thank you
All!

We are moving forward, like we should,
and the fishing has been fantastic!
Temperatures are ranging from 83-85
degrees with sunny skies, with light
winds out of the East, and Southeast!

Hope all anglers who have come
and are still coming to fish
our beautiful waters of Paradise
have experienced and will experience
some Great fishing! Our airports
and car rentals are running
effectively, and hotels and
restaurants are back to normal!

I would like to Congratulate
Merlyn my Magician, and Beverly
Schuette, for a great time
fishing here in Islamorada.
Merlyn caught and released
his first bonefish on 8lb
test, the bonefish screamed
line out, and Merlyn was
definitely impressed with
the magnitude and strength
of this beautiful fish! Of course,
Miss Beverly was taking pictures,
and we did fight the fish for
about 25-30 minutes. The fish
weighed in at 8lbs, and was 23 inches
long. Merlyn and Beverly have
nevered fished saltwater, and
come to really appreciate our
saltwater gamefish. I did take
us a while to revive the fish,
but did release it for another
day of fishing. Great Job!

They also fished the backcountry
for the first time and caught
and released several seatrout,
and ladyfish, and what a great
time was had by all. Thank you
for your time, and hope to see
you in Tarpon Season Merlyn
and Beverly!

Also, I had a young man from
New Jersey that just wanted to
get away before starting a
new job, and we went flyfishing
for bonefish, and even though
Andrew was a Novice angler,
with great aptitude for the
sport, he honed his skill with
a bit of instruction, and had become
more familiar with our elusive
bonefish. With a great sense
of pride, and determination
to use only fly, he had casted
a terrific shot at tailing bonefish,
the fish followed, of course my knees were
knocking, with the correct guidance
he had the bonefish following his fly,
but unfortunately the fish were
to close to the boat and spooked!

But, I know Andrew really came
to appreciate the patience and
diligence fly anglers need to have
when fishing the first time for
bonefish! You did a terrific job
Andrew, and keep that flyrod in
the air, and you will overcome
and be a fluent fly angler!
You walk away with a great
attitude for the sport of
flyfishing, and that will take you
far! Good luck in your new job!

We are having great tides and the
fishing pattern has been grand,
as I said, with some great bonefishing early
in the morning, and early evening
for those elusive bones on fly
or light tackle.

There are still some tarpon
around our favorite channels and
bridges. Eating on and Live
Bait with Pinfish, Pilchards,and Shrimp.
I did see schools of finger mullet
pushing in on the incoming tides!

Several Permits are being found on the
wrecks and rock piles both oceanside
and bayside feeding on the out-
going tides on live bait crabs
and jigs tipped with shrimp.

It goes to prove flyfishing
and light tackle anglers challenge
all these great gamefish with determination
and skill and in the end come up
with a great catch.

Also, you may now know that
Snook season is open, and some
great reports are coming in
from Everglades National Park.
Snook Season has reopened as
of September 1st, so don't
be skeptical, we are truly
in a Paradise of our own, and
fishing has been greatly improving.

Backcountry has definitely had
some much needed improved
action in the Park at Flamingo with
some Redfish on the flats, and Snook
are being caught and released on
live bait and fly, also alot of
Seatrout are still around
the flats, just look for the muds.

Islamorada still offers some great
late summer and fall action is soon
to be upon us for Saltwater species for
anglers interested to conquer our bonefish,
permit, there are still a few tarpon to be
had, on the flats or in the Park.

October, November and even
our upcoming Winter months will
be a test of great challenges,
and will definitely give us, and
you as the Angler some Great Action.

So with the Fishing Season gearing
up and the tournaments upcoming monthly,
you and companions can definitely
enjoy some great backcountry
and flats action then, and if that
doesn't impress you, you definitely
need to come experience it for yourselves.

Also I would like to input that
October, and November will provide some
great light tackle and fly action
for bonefishing, and it's
hard not to get the fever for
these reel screamers, and we have
been fishing with them on live
bait shrimp, crabs, and fly, and had
many grand runs and catches, with
the best release, your pictures
and happy faces!

Also, get ready for next season for your
trips, and remember, we get booked 6 months
to a year in advance for Tarpon Season, and
this already busy season filled up quickly
for the months of April, May, June, and July.
So take advantage of your opportunity to book
a trip, and don't forget we do night trips,
and there are new fishing packages just for
Tarpon Season, located on my homepage
at www.boneranger.com for you diehard fisherman
and women!

For every angler that has been to the Keys or
Islamorada to fish, they get to see for themselves
the magnitude and diversity here from sight casting
to some really incredible gamefish as the bonefish on
fly, or the use of light tackle in the backcountry
for redfish, trout, or snook, and whether or
not the anglers have come to fish or to
snorkel and/or diving the coral reef, you
will always leave with the remembrance and
beauty that always mistifies our Keys, and
knowing this granduere lies within our Paradise.

Don't forget Fall Action is already
here, and it will provide great
morning and evening trips, for the
most exciting, and exhilerating
sportfishing available, from Sept,
Oct, November even through the
Christmas holiday, and what great
gifts for anniversarys, birthdays,
graduation, Christmas, or just
for good grades. I enjoy fishing
and teaching Novice, Intermediate
and even Advanced Anglers the
technique for these Awesome Gamefish!

Jan. 31st, but we can still
fish on catch and release.

on February 1st. There has
been some really nice snook
that have been caught
and released being reported,
ranging in size from 6lbs
up to 9lbs. We have
been using fly and light
tackle with jigs, and
live bait shrimp on 3/0
hooks.

Everglades National Park
has been filled with large
trout, jack crevelle, redfish,
sheepshead, snapper, snook,
pompano, and our elusive bonefish.

Hello, from the Sportfishing Capital

had a Safe and Happy Fourth of July,

and we have some great fishing

reports, and some awesome months

just ahead.

We are in a definite summer pattern

with some great bonefishing early

It goes to prove flyfishing

and light tackle anglers challenge

this great gamefish with determination

and stamina.

I would like to congratulate

Nancy Coalter and her daughter

Tracy for a great morning on

the water with a great catch

of a 50-60 tarpon on live

bait, Nancy's first, and I

am quite sure she really enjoyed

the battle with the Giant Silver

King. Her arms were sore after

about a 30-40 minute fight with

her tarpon. Great Job Girls.

I also would like to thank Bill

and Elyse Murphy for their great

sense of humor and adventure. We

jumped a 120-130lb tarpon, and lost him

on his 3rd jump! We weren't fast

enough to the rod or the holder.

It was still a great thrill for

them both.

Backcountry has had some improved

Fishing Report for June 13, 2001

Hello, from the Sportfishing Capital

of the World! We are in another phase

of a great fishing month, and what

can I tell you, but it has been

quite impressive and very hot, the

fish seem to be eating more in the

early morning hours, and just before

dusk, so our flyfishing anglers,

have had quite the challenge, along

with our live bait anglers, for

those tarpon, bonefish, and permit.

It goes to prove flyfishing

and light tackle anglers challenge

this great sportfishing with

some great days and not so

great days.

With some of the best backcountry

and flats action for bonefish,

Tarpon, aka Giant Silver Kings, and

permit, June, July, August and even

September will permit us to have

some Great Action, and if that

doesn't impress you, you definitely

need to come experience it for yourselves.

Summer heat is definitely in the air, and

the Sportfishing Captial has still some

Grand Slams to offer. So what lies ahead for

the remainder of June, and July, and

August, with these months just around the

corner, your indeed ready for landing those big ones!

So don't leave your rods in the basement,

come and check it out, there is still time,

for some Great Catches and Releases for Bonefish,

Tarpon, Permit, Redfish, Snook, and flats

Species.

Thanks to everyone who fished with

me so far this month, and some of us

had some great fishing with catches and

releases of those elusive bones,

and boy, let me tell you, those

tarpon are as finicky at times,

as my cats! For those who did not

get the bite, it has been a tough

go in this heat! So, do get disenchanted,

with these gamefish, we still have

time for the bite.

The start of June has been hot, humid,

and we have had in the last week

the Full Moon, which get the fish

biting early morning, and at dusk

for feeding, which makes it very

difficult to get the fish on the

right bite, and tide, for many. But

this hasn't stopped us these past weeks.

I would indeed say we have seen numerous,

and I mean numerous bonefish, and permit

pushing and feeding on the flats early in

the morning and early evening.

Its hard not to get the fever for

these reel screamers, and we have

been fishing with them on live

bait shrimp, crabs, and fly, and had

many grand runs and catches, with

the best release, your pictures!

The tarpon are here, we have experienced those

Giant Silver Kings, all over from them being

all caught and released on the Oceanside

and Backcountry, on live bait, and crabs, with fish

weighing in from 50lbs, to 120lbs. Not seeing the

mullet back up to the flats and channels, is knowing

the waters are warming up, until we see them again

in late September, and October, when we get some

Fall bites on the Tarpon again.

With Tarpon Season becoming to come to a

close at the end of July, it is never too

late to get ready for next season for your

trips, and remember, we get booked 6 months

to a year in advance for this already

very busy season of April, May, June, and July,

For every angler that has been to the Keys or

Islamorada to fish, they get to see for themselves

the magnitude and diversity here from sight casting

to some really incredible gamefish as the bonefish on

fly, or the use of light tackle in the backcountry

for redfish, trout, or snook, and whether or

not the anglers have come to fish or to

snorkel and/or diving the coral reef, you

will always leave with the remembrance and

beauty that always mistifies our Keys, and

knowing this granduere lies within our Paradise.

There has been several hook ups for those

powerful Permit around the rock ledges on

the oceanside and on the wrecks and flats

in the backcountry, with these Powerful

beauties, weighing an average between 15-30lbs!

That is a challenge that goes unscaved!

You must simply try challenging your skills

on these rod benders!

Since Snook season is closed for June, July,

and August, and does reopen September 1st,

backcountry actions is still very challenging.

There have been some good catches and releases

on pilchards and jigs, tipped with shrimp.

Catches and releases have been in the 20"

up to the 30" catagory.

We have caught and released alot of sharks,

barracuda, jack crevelle and snapper on flats

and in the channels on live shrimp, and jigs

tipped with shrimp.

Also, trout fishing in Everglades National

Park has slowed down a bit, but sizes have

been very prevelent, trout ranging

from 17" up to 25", and that makes for a

hearty meal. We also have shared several

catches of bonefish, permit, ladyfish, sharks,

jack crevelle, snook, and mangrove snapper.

Don't forget June, July, August, and even

September provide some Excellent fishing here in

the Keys for those Tarpon, and Elusive

Bones, and Permit! Don't miss your

chance to challenge any of these powerful

gamefish, it will prove their reputation!

And Make A Believer Even out of You!

Don't forget, it's here, all you could ever

want for fishing the big saltwater gamefish.

Tarpon season is here, and before you know it,

it will be Summer, and action will slow

down a pace or two, on the tarpon, but bonefish,

and permit, are grand that time of year, so get

your dates together, bookings are limited, and

there are still some dates still available,

June, July, August, and September are some

great months on live bait or fly for some Rod

Action!

Whether your a Novice, Intermediate or Advanced

Angler, you will prove to yourself, that these

fish are an experience all of their own, and

whatever species you challenge, your sure to go home

with memories of a lifetime!

I would sure hate to see the avid fisherman

and women miss the bite on those elusive bones,

tarpon, permit, reds, snook, trout, jacks, sharks,

snapper, and it's such a thrill to see the run

jumps, and power of all of these truly magnificant

fish. When you can also experience a day in the

backcountry, the beauty and wildlife alone in

Everglades National Park, is sure to make you

come back with a smile on your face.

So, for you Fly Enthusiasts, and Light Tackle

Specialists, lets get our Season off with a

Variety and Memories that will last all year through.

Don't forget, early evening trips are also good for

bonefishing, and permit! You can only have

some great times with catch and release either on

light tackle or fly! I always offer No Pressure Fly

Instruction, and would be happy to get you involved

Fishing Report for May 10, 2000

Hello, from the Sportfishing Capital

of the World! We are in another phase

of a great fishing month, and what

can I tell you, but it has been

a Great Start to our Saltwater

Gamefish, and they have yet to let

me or my anglers down this month.

It goes to prove May has enhanced us,

with some of the best backcountry

and flats action for bonefish,

and some grand catches for those

Giant Silver Kings, and if that

doesn't impress you, you definitely

need to come experience it for yourselves.

Spring is definitely in the air, and

some Great Action Proves to lie ahead for

the remainder of May, June, and July, and

with the Summer months just around the

corner for landing those big ones!

So don't leave your rods in the basement,

come and check it out, there is still time,

for some Great Catches and Releases for Bonefish,

Tarpon, Permit, Redfish, Trout, and

other Species.

Thanks to everyone who fished with

me so far this month, and have had some

great fishing with catches and

releases of those elusive bones,

and boy, let me tell you, those

tarpon are marching in right along,

just as we anticipated, and with our

baited hooks, and this warm weather,

let me tell you folks, it doesn't

get any better than this!

The start of May has been windy,

and difficult to get fishing, but

hasn't stopped us this past week.

It has been an fairly cool, with

low humidity, but with May moving

on, it will start warming up, with

more actions to come. We have had

plenty of NorthEast winds from 20-30knots,

those are some great ocean

breezes, except for this upcoming week

with the wind, which is slightly hindering

the bite, but, has not slowed the catch

and releases for many of my anglers for

tarpon, and bonefish. I would indeed say we have

seen numerous, and I mean numerous bonefish

pushing and feeding on the flats early in

the morning and early evening.

Its hard not to get the fever for

these reel screamers, and we have

been fishing with them on live

bait shrimp, crabs, and fly, and had

many grand runs and catches, with

the best release, your pictures!

Also, many of my other anglers have caught

and released a few bonefish, with this wind,

has been really hard to even get out, but

we have in the latter part of last week,

and this week, catching them on live

bait, and jigs, weighing in from 8lbs

up to 12 lbs, and we had some really big

fish on fly following, but no takers,

we were using shrimp patterns on #5

hooks, also with some crab patterns, also tied

on #5 and #6 hooks, and fish weighed in

from 6lbs up to 9lbs.

The tarpon are here, we have experienced those

Giant Silver Kings, all over from them being

all caught and released on the Oceanside

and Backcountry, on live bait, and crabs, with fish

weighing in from 70lbs up to 100lbs. Seeing the

mullet back up to the flats and channels, is knowing

that the fish are not far behind! That's a Great

way to Kick off the Season, and I am sure Anglers from

all over will be returning to conquer the Leaps and

Bounds of this Beautiful Creature we call Megalops Atlantica!

With the Start of Tarpon Season, it is already

a very busy season for May, June, and July,

and there is still dates open in June and

July for knabbing those Tarpon. Knowing the

Silver Kings reputation, we will keep many anglers

fighting and allured to this fish!

For every angler that has been to the Keys or

Islamorada to fish, they get to see for themselves

the magnitude and diversity here from sight casting

to some really incredible gamefish as the bonefish on

not the anglers have come to fish or to

snorkel and/or diving the coral reef, you

will always leave with the remembrance and

beauty that always mistifies our Keys, and

in the deep patches and pockets and channels,

with catches in the range of 7lbs up to 9lbs

on fly and light tackle with live shrimp, jigs, and

and channels in the backcountry.

Don't forget, it's here, all you could ever

want for fishing the big saltwater gamefish.

Fishing Report for March 28, 2001

Hello, from the Sportfishing Capital

of the World! We are yet at another

end of a Great Fishing Month, with

some Great Action Ahead for April,

May, June and the Summer months

which is not far behind! For some

Great Catches and Releases for Bonefish,

Tarpon, Permit, Redfish, Trout, and

other Species.

Thanks to everyone who fished with

me this month, and have had some

great fishing with catches and

releases of those elusive bones,

and boy, let me tell you, those

tarpon are marching in right along,

just as we anticipated, and with our

baited hooks, and this warm weather,

let me tell you folks, it doesn't

get any better than this!

March has been indeed a warm one, with

a variety of breezes from the Northeast,

Northwest, East, and Southeast,

driving the bonefish up on the flats

oceanside and on the flats in the

backcountry, that I would call

some frantic feeding, mudding,

along with displaying their tail walking

excitement, that's a sight that

you will never forget!

Its hard not to get the fever for

these reel screamers, and we have

been fishing with them on live

bait shrimp, and fly, and have had

many grand runs and catches, with

the best release, your picture!

Many anglers had caught and released

several bonefish this month, on live

bait, and jigs, weighing in from 5lbs

up to 12lbs, and we had some really big

fish on fly, using shrimp patterns on #5

hooks, also with some crab patterns, also tied

on #5 and #6 hooks, and fish weighed in

from 9lbs up to 11lbs. Some happy

anglers, with some great casting, prevailed

on those big bones, and I hope they

will be back to conquer that gray

ghost again!

Also some Giant Silver Kings have been

caught and released on the Oceanside

and Backcountry, on live bait, and

crabs, with fish weighing in from

30lbs up to 100lbs. Seeing the

mullet back up to the flats and

channels, is knowing the fish are

not far behind! That's a Great

way to Kick off the Season, and I am

sure Anglers from all over will be

returning to conquer the Leaps and

Bounds of this Beautiful Creature

we call Megalops Atlantica!

With the Start of Tarpon Season only days

away, we are going to have a busy

and prosperous, April, May, and June,

from these Giant Silver Kings, and we know

the mullet are here!

April is a great time for the Elusive Bonefish,

and the ever Powerful Permit! What a great time

of the year to grab a Grand Slam! Come on down

and Join in on the fun, and experience of these

magnificant gamefish!

I am also seeing the Permit around the rock ledges

Since Snook season reopened on the 1st of Feb,

there have been some good catches and releases

on pilchards and jigs, tipped with shrimp.

Catches and releases have been in the 18"

up to the 30" catagory.

With a few of these brief cold snaps we are

having, the shrimp and pilchards are also making

the bite right, at the bridges and channels,

the snook fishing, with the snook being so

prevelent, they have been reported ranging from 5lbs

up to 7lbs., reports of some big snook have been

reported in Florida Bay and East Cape in the channels

and pot holes and also on the rock piles and wrecks

of the backcountry.

We have caught and released alot of sharks,

barracuda, jack crevelle and snapper on flats

and in the channels on live shrimp, and jigs

tipped with shrimp.

We have also been doing some fishing

out on the patches with several catches

of grouper, mutton snapper, jack crevelle,

yellowtail, and hogfish. That will definitely

keep a bend in your rod, and keep you and

the Mrs. busy!

Redfish are just starting to show back

in Flamingo, with catches in the range

of 6lbs up to 8lbs on fly and light

tackle with live shrimp, jigs, and

worms. They have been in the pockets,

and channels in the backcountry.

Don't forget, with only a few days away,

will prove to yourself, that these fish are

an experience all of their own, and whatever

species you challenge, your sure to go home

with memories of a lifetime!

April will provide Great opportunities for bonefish

on light tackle or fly as well! Evening is an

opportunity also to challenge the elusive

gray ghost, and we should see some action

for some permit on live bait for you to experience

too.

With March behind us, and April is around the

corner, Soem Spring fishing will get rid

of those Cabin Blues! So, all I can say,

season can only electrify, and for you

the anglers only bigger and better flats,

and backcountry action is the way to go

and some great offshore action, is waiting

for you too!

I would sure hate to see the avid fisherman

and women miss the bite on those elusive bones,

The Florida Keys Fishing Report

Fishing Report for March 6, 2001

Hello, from the Sportfishing Capital
of the World! Well February has
come and gone, and we are ready
for our March report.

Thanks to everyone who fished with
me in February, and our beginning
of March, we have had some Gorgeous
Weather, and some great catches
and releases to report. With Tarpon
Season only weeks away, we are going
to have a strong late March, April,
May, June and July for those Giant
Silver Kings, Elusive Bonefish, and
the ever Powerful Permit, great time
of the year to grab a Grand Slam!

For every angler that has been to
Islamorada to fish, they get to see
for themselves the magnitude and
diversity here from sight casting
to some really incredible gamefish
as the bonefish on fly, or the use
of light tackle in the backcountry
for redfish, trout, or snook, and whether or
not the anglers have come to fish or try
snorkeling, or diving the coral reef, you
will always leave with the beauty always
mistifying the beauty that lies within our Paradise.

We have had some very prevalent wind these
last few days as a Low pushes through and
High pressure sets up once again for some
warm weather, and pleasent winds for some
great bonefishing. Daily highs have been
in the low 80's with low tides in the morning
producing tailing bonefish all over the
oceanside, and in the backcountry.

We have caught and released several bonefish
on fly and light tackle. We caught 2 bonefish
with fly, using a Crazy Charlie, weighing
in at 6 lbs, and 9lbs. Way to go Karen and
Collette. We also have caught and released
5 bonefish on light tackle ranging from
7lbs up to 10lbs. We are also seeing the
Permit around the rock ledges in the backcountry
and oceanside running in between 15-25lbs.
That is a challenge that goes unscaved!

Since Snook season reopened February 1st,
there have been some good catches and releases
on pilchards and jigs, tipped with shrimp.
Catches and releases have been in the 5lb
up to 7lb catagory.

With this brief cold snap we are having,
the shrimp are also making their runs
through these cold fronts at night,
at the bridges and channels, the snook fishing,
has been prevelent, with snook ranging from 5lbs
up to 7lbs., reports of some big snook have been
reported in Florida Bay and East Cape in the channels
and pot holes and also on the rock piles and wrecks
of the backcountry.

Bonefishing has slowed only for these
few days, with winds in excess of
25 knots and gusts, push the
fish out deep, and make the bit slow, the water
temperatures are still warm, but making
the bite a difficult task on light tackle
and fly, but with our warming trend, they
will make their way onto the flats to feed
as our waters warm up to the mid-70's.

We have caught and released alot of sharks,
barracuda, jack crevelle and snapper on flats
and in the channels on live shrimp, and jigs
tipped with shrimp.

Also, trout fishing in Everglades National
Park has been very prevelent, trout ranging
from 2lbs up to 3-4lbs, and with
catches of ladyfish, sharks, jack crevelle,
and mangrove snapper.

We also have some great reports of the
Tarpon showing up early in the morning
and early evening at the channels, also
in the Everglades National Park, with
the warm weather we have had has driven
the mullet into the channels and at the
bridges hitting on pilchards, pinfish,
and large live bait shrimp. It's really
quite the experience having a Giant
Silver King at the end of your rod!
Tarpon sizes have been ranging into
the 40lb to 80lb weight class.

Don't forget April, May, June and July
provide some Excellent fishing here in
the Keys for those Tarpon, and Elusive
Bones, and Permit! Don't miss your
chance to challenge any of these powerful
gamefish, it will prove their reputation!
And Make you a Believer!

We have also been doing some fishing
out on the patches with several catches
of grouper, mutton snapper, jack crevelle,
yellowtail, and hogfish. That will definitely
keep a bend in your rod, and we have also
caught and released snook in the 5lb-7lb
range.

Redfish are just starting to show back
in Flamingo, with catches in the range
of 6lbs up to 8lbs on fly and light
tackle with live shrimp, jigs, and
worms. They have been in the pockets,
and channels in the backcountry.

Don't forget, with only a few weeks away,
Tarpon season will be here before you know it,
get your dates together, bookings are limited,
and don't forget we do evening trips, and April
is a great month on live bait for some big bruisers,
and, I do have some time alotted for anglers
to get a chance to experience the challenge
of these big and powerful fish.

April will provide Great opportunities for bonefish
on light tackle or fly as well! Evening is an
opportunity also to challenge the elusive
gray ghost, and we should see some action
for some permit on live bait for you to experience
too.

With February behind us, and March has settled
all ready upon us, season can only electrify
the anglers for bigger and better flats,
backcountry, and some great offshore action,
and I would sure hate to see the avid fisherman
and women miss the bite on those elusive bones,
tarpon, permit, reds, snook, trout, jacks, sharks,
snapper, and it's such a thrill to see the run
jumps, and power of all of these truly magnificant
fish. When you can also experience a day in the
backcountry, the beauty and wildlife alone in
Everglades National Park, is sure to make you
come back with a smile on your face.
