Fishing Report for December 12th, 2003!
I hope everyone and your families have a Happy Holiday Season. Can
you believe it, it is almost the end of the year, and Christmas is
around the corner.
Don't forget Christmas and the New Years is a great way to give gifts
to the ones who love fishing, either to fish for the holiday or to
give them a jump on the Spring Tarpon and Bonefish Season.
Its a great stocking stuffer, and who wouldn't want a Great Gift
for your Husbands, Kids, the ones off for College, or just a Great
Get Away for you and your loved one, the Keys is the Place for all
kinds of Saltwater Gamefishing.
I can put together a great package for you all either flats fishing
and backcountry, or Flats fishing and Offshore fishing. Just give
me a call and I will put together a nice cover letter, and send it
off for you to put in the Christmas Stocking. So, don't forget to
call me at 305-664-5891, and I will be happy to work with you, and
make sure you get it on time for the holidays!
We have had an array of weather here in the last few weeks, with
plenty of wind, cool mornings, but sunny skies, and some great fishing
for all anglers.
It's been a sensational Fall Season, which is coming to a close,
but the Winter fishing should be spectacular flats fishing, backcountry,
on the patches on the reef, and offshore of course.
I can only tell you the fishing has been good on some days, and slow
on others, but one thing is for sure, the report has a variety of
fishing you will enjoy.
Some of the days have been spotty bonefishing, oceanside, but on
the bayside to our South the bonefishing has been good.
I would like to thank Bob and Denny Martin, Bob's wife Colleen, set
up a birthday gift to Bob for bonefishing, and winds were a factor
our first day, and we did fish a half day the next, and the bonefish
were not too cooperative, but we did hook up some sharks, and some
other species. It was Bob's first experience on the flats, and thoroughly
enjoyed the experience of sightcasting. I certainly enjoyed seeing
them both enjoy the morning, and certainly hope to have them both
back in our upcoming tarpon season.
I also want to congratulate Tom Crane who came from Ohio, who came
to flyfish for bonefish, we caught and release 2 nice bonefish, one
weighing in at 8lbs and the other at 10lbs. We were using Crazy Charlies
with Chartruesse Green, and Epoxy head, with a bit of Crystal Flash,
and we were in a small school, but really Tom did all the work and
nailed the cast at 2 o'clock, and the fish worked over to the fly,
and he did a beautiful job landing him to the boat. It was later in
the morning, we caught and released the big one, and again using the
same fly, he hooked up a nice bonefish in a school of 3, and I poled,
and poled, and what a fight on an 8 weight rod, the fish zipped across
the flats, and it was about a 30 minute fight and was a memory that
will last forever for the both of us. Great job, and see yah back
soon.
I would like to thank Bill and Elyce Murphy from North Carolina,
Bill too is an avid flyfisherman, and it was a very cool morning,
and the fishing was very slow, but we too had a good morning, but
the bonefish did not cooperate.
So, fishing on the flats has been a joy and disappointment to some
anglers, and the weather has been a bit tricky, but with the warmer
weather coming back, the fishing should once again get better and
better.
I also want to reinsert this write up, because they just got back
from their vacation, and may have not had a chance to read it from
the last report, I do apologize, but I have a big congratulations
to Marek and Julie Plater, from Pennsylvania, we fished a few days,
and they too caught and released several bonnetheads, ladyfish, and
jack crevelle, and also had the pleasure of meeting Billy the Barracuda,
he really gives the anglers a thrill when he comes up out of no where,
and scares the by-jimmines out of you. We also caught and released
some small snapper too. But the cout-de-gras was on the last day of
fishing, and we decided to just bonefish that day, and we did see
some bonefish early in the morning, but not enough to get some good
casts too, but the last 20 minutes of our charter, I looked behind
the boat on the falling tide, and there it was a Big School of 50
fish coming right to us, this was it! Do or die! Marek casted at a
nine o'clock shot, and there it was, his first bonefish on 8lb test!
He did it! The initial hook up, and Marek, couldn't believe the speed
on the speed demons. He did a great job listening to me, and working
the boat where the bonefish was going, and we landed him in about
20 minutes, and she was a beauty, it weighed in at 8 1/2 lbs. What
a beautiful fish, we had Julie taking the pictures, and it was the
biggest thrill for us all. We worked feverishly to get Marek his first
bone. He was exhausted and needless to say, exhilerated, and very
happy. I too was very proud, and he looked at Julie and said, next
year it is your turn. I thought that was Great! Good Job Marek, and
really look forward to seeing you both back for another line stretching
and reel screaming morning.
So, it has been a fair fishing week and a great time stalking them
elusive bonefish, and can be quite cumbersome when they are not around,
but that is the love of stalking these gray ghosts. It can be a bit
trying on the nerves, but once you hook up the adrenaline takes over,
and your knees start shaking, and the thrill of the line zipping out
in less than a minute, as Marek said I cannot describe the feeling,
until you actually hook up. But, let me tell you, that it is one of
the most fasinating, and intriguing experiences you could ever have,
whether on fly or light tackle, it will have your heart racing, and
have a lump in your throat, and a smile on your face, when you hook
up!
So you can see the past several weeks of bonefishing has been great
some days in in the early morning and good in the later part of the
evenings just before dusk, and is a great fight on fly or on 8lb test
with shrimp, or crab.
Some Cobia and Spanish Makerals have been spotted in the backcountry
on the flats in Everglades National Park.
With the snook season reopened, we have had some great catches of
10-12lb. snook in Everglades National Park, using live bait, or jigs
tipped with bait, pinfish, and pilchards, you are bound to hook up
with these bruisers. With the limit on 2 fish on the species, makes
for a fun day in the Backcountry.
I have also had reports that the redfishing has been good also in
the Park, and with reports of several catches and releases between
7lbs up to 10lbs. on fly and light tackle. Using shrimp, crabs, spoons,
and flies have been the going ticket.
Reef and Patch fishing has been good with yellowtail, mangrove and
mutton snappers, all great keepers, and what a dinner.
Captain Alex Adler reports from the Kalex, that the Offshore Fishing
is Great, finding early bait migrations have been very active for
kingfish, bonitas, snappers. They have had a great run on the Sailfish,
and with some great daily catches and releases of these beautiful
gamefish. They have been catching tuna, dolphin, kingfish, cero makeral,
a few wahoo, as the water temperatures drop, sailfish become more
plentiful in 90-180 ft. of water, as well as the groupers and kingfish.
This Past Week an early run on the sailfish, and blackfin tuna, dolphin
fishing has been on the edge of the reef, with some hit and miss with
the schoolies and amberjack.
Shallow water Reef and Wreck fishing has been great. This report
for offshore has been supplied by Capt. Alex Adler, from the Infamous
Kalex, and you will see updated Offshore Reports on my page, by Capt.
Alex Adler for all you offshore fans. Also, make sure to check out

had plenty to eat. Don't forget Christmas Holiday and the New Years
is around the Corner, what a Great Gift for your Husbands, Kids, Your
ones off for College, or just a Great Get Away, the Keys is the Place

call me at 305-664-5891, and I will be happy to work with you, and
make sure you get it on time for the holidays!
We have had an array of weather here in the last few weeks, with
plenty of wind, but sunny skies, and some great fishing for all anglers.
It's been a sensational Fall Season, which is coming to a close.
But, in the last few days, we have had exceptional weather, with the
winds at a stall, but we should be experiencing a Fall Cold Front
this upcoming weekend.
I can only tell you the fishing has been good on some days, and slow
on others, but one thing is for sure, the report has a variety of
fishing you will enjoy.
There are some small tarpon still around at the bridges, with reports
of 15-25lb tarpon eating on pilchards, and mullet, on the early morning
tide.
Some of the days have been spotty bonefishing, oceanside, but on
the bayside to our South the bonefishing has been good. I would like
to Cher Tufley, from Colorado, we ventured out in the winds seeking
our elusive bonefish, and we caught and released several bonnetheads,
ladyfish, jack crevelle, snapper, and other species. The winds were
very prevelent when Cher was here, but like the great gal she is,
we made the best of the conditions. Thanks, Cher, and hope to see
yah in the Tarpon Season, and tell Barbara to enjoy that new car!
I would also like to congratulate Rick and Angela Norman, who too,
had experienced some stiff winds, and again, we made the best of the
situation, and fished and Angela caught and released her first shark,
and landed several ladyfish in the 4-5lb. range, which kept us busy
for a part of the morning, and Rick, had some catching up to do, but,
the women overtook the catch of the day. We also caught and released
several smaller ladyfish, jack crevelle, lizard fish, and snapper,
but all in all, we had a great morning, we also had hooked up a 4-5'
barracuda, who got a belly full of some great catches. Thanks again,
and look forward to fishing with you again Rick and Angela.
Also, would like to thank Scott Stegen, and his girlfriend Lara,
who came down and fished a few days with me, and we caught and released
several bonnethead sharks, and Lara, hooked into her first, and had
a great time on the light tackle with catches of several sharks, ladyfish,
jack crevelle, and snapper, and they too, got to meet Billy the Barracuda,
for some more brunch! He is in this area every time I fish there,
and can be quiet the amuzement for my anglers seeing how gutsy he
is coming up right next to the boat when we are ready to land the
fish, and knab him. I hope Bill has had his fill. We also fished for
some small tarpon by the bridge, but had no luck with them, but did
catch and release some nice Blacktips, one weighing in about 20lbs,
and some really nice snapper, and bonnetheads again, with the wind
honking out of the North to Northeast really had hindered some fishing.
Scott, did had a nice shot at some bonefish, but we beamed him on
the head, and spooked them out.
Scott and Lara also had a great adventure offshore with Capt. Alex
Adler on the Kalex, hooking up and releasing 4 sailfish, 2 for Scott,
and 2 for Lara, with some great catches of king and cero makeral,
and I believe they also got some great bonitas too.
Great job, and I look forward to seeing you back in the Tarpon Season.
I also have a big congratulations to Marek and Julie Plater, from
Pennsylvania, we fished a few days, and they too caught and released
several bonnetheads, ladyfish, and jack crevelle, and also had the
pleasure of meeting Billy the Barracuda, he really gives the anglers
a thrill when he comes up out of no where, and scares the by-jimmines
out of you. We also caught and released some small snapper too. But
the cout-de-gras was on the last day of fishing, and we decided to
just bonefish that day, and we did see some bonefish early in the
morning, but not enough to get some good casts too, but the last 20
minutes of our charter, I looked behind the boat on the falling tide,
and there it was a Big School of 50 fish coming right to us, this
was it! Do or die! Marek casted at a nine o'clock shot, and there
it was, his first bonefish on 8lb test! He did it! The initial hook
up, and Marek, couldn't believe the speed on the speed demons. He
did a great job listening to me, and working the boat where the bonefish
was going, and we landed him in about 20 minutes, and she was a beauty,
it weighed in at 8 1/2 lbs. What a beautiful fish, we had Julie taking
the pictures, and it was the biggest thrill for us all. We worked
feverishly to get Marek his first bone. He was exhausted and needless
to say, exhilerated, and very happy. I too was very proud, and he
looked at Julie and said, next year it is your turn. I thought that
was Great! Good Job Marek, and really look forward to seeing you both
back for another line stretching and reel screaming morning.
I would also like to thank Cheryl and Vince Macfaden from Idaho.
We fished a few days for those elusive bones again, and Cheryl hooked
up her first bonefish, but not one, two in one day. She hooked up
a nice 7lber, on the bayside, by the Marina, and about an hour and
half later, released a huge bonefish weighing in at 11 1/2 lbs on
light tackle of 8lb test. It was at least a 35-40 minute fight for
Cheryl, and she too listened well, and worked all around the boat
to land 2 beautiful bonefish, and we released them both with no harm
to the fish, and saw them swim away. I am sure both bonefish were
happy to be back out in the open waters to fight for another day again.
Great Job Cheryl, and see yah back in the Upcoming Tarpon Season.
So, it has been a good fishing week, and a great time stalking them
elusive bonefish, and can be quite cumbersome when they are not around,
but that is the love of stalking these gray ghosts.
Captain Alex Adler reports from the Kalex, that the Offshore Fishing
is Fantastic, finding early bait migrations have been very active
for kingfish, bonitas, snappers. They have had a great run on the
Sailfish, and with some great daily catches and releases of these
beautiful gamefish. They have been catching tuna, dolphin, kingfish,
cero makeral, a few wahoo, as the water temperatures drop, sailfish
become more plentiful in 90-180 ft. of water, as well as the groupers
and kingfish. This Past Week an early run on the sailfish, and blackfin
tuna, dolphin fishing has been on the edge of the reef, with some
hit and miss with the schoolies and amberjack.
Shallow water Reef and Wreck fishing has been great. This report
for offshore has been supplied by Capt. Alex Adler, from the Infamous
Kalex, and you will see updated Offshore Reports on my page, by Capt.
Alex Adler for all you offshore fans. Also, make sure to check out
my new Fall and Winter Fishing Packages we are offering for Both Flats,

Fishing Report for November 7th, 2003!
It's been a sensational Fall Season, with some great weather, except
for this past week, with some torential rains, and winds, but all
is well, back on the Islander Chain, and the Sun is Shining, and Fishing
should be just Great!
There are some small tarpon still around at the bridges, with reports
of 15-25lb tarpon eating on pilchards, and mullet, on the early morning
tide.
Some of the days have been spotty bonefishing, oceanside, but a bit
South the bonefishing has been good. I would like to congratulate
Matthew Conway, would flyfished with me for our elusive bonefish,
and he caught and released his first weighing in 11.5, and worked
the fish for about 35-40 minutes, using a Crazy Charlie, with a chartruesse
green fly on 10lb test. It was Matt's first one, Great Job. See yah
soon.
Also, would like to Thanks Mike Penn, and Burt Beitz, from Texas,
for fishing aboard, they caught and released on fly several ladyfish,
jack crevelles, and we tossed the light tackle with several catches
and releases. Hope to have you back, and it was fun with you both.
Bob Levin and Owen went with me for a half day, and we had a pretty
windy morning, and Bob had a nice bonefish on early in the morning,
but we lost him, and he spit the hook, but as the morning went on
we didn't see any bonefish on the flat, so we went close by and fished
light tackle on 8lb test, and we did have fun catching and releasing
snappers, ladyfish, jack crevelle, We had an experience, with a Big
Barracuda, named Bill, we did do any catching, but hooked up Bill
briefly out from under the bottom of the boat, this 4ft barracuda
Bill knows where breakfast is served.
He knows when I'm there to catch the morning call for breakfast,
but he is fun on wire leader, and 8lb test. Good Going Guys, and thanks
for a fun morning.
Thanks to Ed Brown and Bob, for a fun half day too. Ed always brings
wind, and usually rain, but we got out of that pattern, and had a
sunny, and fun morning, with catches and releases of snapper, jack
crevelle, sharks like to Congratulate The early morning sets off the
pattern, with sunny and warm mornings. Then, afternoon thunderstorms
move in, and the evenings are typical of the Keys Sunsets.
In the Past Weeks bonefishing has been good in the early morning
and late evenings just before dusk, and is a great fight on fly or
on 8lb test with shrimp, or crab.
Some Cobia and Spanish Makerals have been spotted in the backcountry
on the flats in Everglades National Park.
With the snook season reopened, we have had some great catches of
10lb snook in Everglades National Park, using live bait, or jigs tipped
with bait, pinfish, and pilchards, you are bound to hook up with these
bruisers. With the limit on 2 fish on the species, makes for a fun
day in the Everglades.
Reef and Patch fishing has been good with yellowtail, mangrove and
mutton snappers, all great keepers, and what a dinner.
Captain Alex Adler reports from the Kalex, that the Offshore The
Fall Run is Fantastic, finding early bait migrations have been very
active for kingfish, bonitas, snappers. They have been catch tuna,
scattered dolphin, kingfish, cero makeral, a few wahoo, and the water
temperatures drop, sailfish become more plentiful in 90-180 ft. of
water, as well as the groupers and kingfish. This Past Week an early
run on the sailfish, and blackfin tuna, dolphin fishing has been on
the edge of the reef, with some hit and miss with the schoolies and
amberjack.
Shallow water Reef and Wreck fishing has been great. This report
for offshore has been supplied by Capt. Alex Adler, from the Infamous
Kalex, and you will see updated Offshore Reports on my page, by Capt.
Alex Adler for all you offshore fans. Also, make sure to check out

some of the less fortunate, and a Great Way to have Fun, and make
new Friends.
Permit fishing is spotty, but with the falling tides in the evening
hours. We have been using small crabs, and jigs tipped with shrimp.
A delicatable dinner for those tailing bones, and in the channels
for the permit.
Using 2/0 hooks, and 1/8 to 1/4 jigs for the permit, tipped with
shrimp. Your presentation is just as important to attract these elusive
fish, as well as bonefish.

I would like to thank the Scott Maki, his brother Jeff,
and friend Ken from Illinois, that fished with me a day on
the patches, and we caught numerous yellowtail, and lane
snapper, porgies, grunts, and Scott's brother Jeff, hooked
into a nice Spanish Makeral, but broke off on the light tackle.
Also, Jeff caught the biggest snapper of the day, way to
go guys, they enjoyed a delicious lunch with their catch.
Also, would like to say a big congratulations to Scott for
hooking a nice bonnethead shark, his first, but unfortunately,
he broke off on the seafans, but was a great thrill for Scott
to hook up his first.
I also want to thank Steve and Lisa Altman who fished with
me. The both had catch and releases of several ladyfish,
snapper, and jack crevelle. We couldn't find any bonefish
early in the morning, but decided to get the rods bending,
and they both did well on the light tackle, and we did have
a few bonefish push through a bit later in the morning, but
it was a great morning for the both of them. I look forward
to having them both back.
Also, would like to thank the Lansing family, Ray, Angie,
and their daughter Lucy. We started the morning bonefishing
on light tackle, but got to be imcumbersome for Lucy, and
decided to go bend the rod again, and had a great morning
of catch and release of several ladyfish, Ray hooked up a
4 ft. barracuda, which ate down a ladyfish, and made a big
splash next to the boat for a thrilling morning for Lucy,
who had never seen a big barracuda. Also, I would like to
congratulate Lucy on her first bonefish, it was a juvenile
bone, but just the same a bonefish, and I was very proud
of her first hook up. Also, Mom Angie, and Dad Ray, had a
great time with hook ups of ladyfish, snapper, jack crevelle,
lizard fish, and other species. What a great morning. I look
forward to posting Lucy picture's and hope to see them soon,
and maybe in tarpon season. Congratulations Lansing Family.
Also, want to Congratulate Faith and Charles Sheridan, they
came and flyfished bonefish with me and they both hooked
up on fly, using Crazy Charlies, on 8 weight flyrods, and
hooked into 2 nice bonefish, weighing in around 7lbs for
Faith, and Charlie hooked up a nice 9lb bonefish. We were
using Chartruesse flies, and the bones couldn't get enough
of these little buggers, but what a fight pound for pound
one of the most intriguing species, and the runs are incredulous.
Surprising Faith on how fast they run, she did all things
right on fly, and caught and released her first, and Charlie
did the same. It was a great fight for both.

last week an early run on the sailfish, and blackfin tuna, dolphin
fishing has been on the edge of the reef, with some hit and miss
with the schoolies and amberjack.

Fishing Report for September 9th, 2003!
Well, we have had some wet weather, and Summer is definitely
keeping us in this grid lock pattern here in the Keys.
The early morning rains, sets off the pattern, with sunny
and warm mornings. Afternoon thunderstorms move in, and the
evenings are typical of the Keys Sunsets.
The bonefishing has been great in the early morning and
late evenings just before dusk, and is a great fight on fly
or on 8lb test with shrimp, or crab.
Some tarpon are still around in the backcountry, and at
the bridges late at night or early morning. Fish ranging
in size of 15-25lbs.
Some Cobia has been spotted in the backcountry on the flats
in Everglades National Park.
Snook season reopened, on the 1st of September, with some
nice catches being reported in the Park in the backcountry.
Using pilchards, and pinfish. With the limit on 2 fish on
the species, makes for a fun day in the Everglades.
Reef and Patch fishing has been good with yellowtail, mangrove
and mutton snappers, all great keepers, and what a dinner.
Offshore has been hit and miss with the schoolie dolphin,
and had some great bonitas, kingfish, and amberjack.
I would like to thank the John and Denise Morley who came
and fished with me for bonefish for a few days, and we did
manage to catch and release 2 nice bones from 7lbs, and 10lbs.

Fishing Report for August 11th, 2003!
Well, Summer is definitely in a grid lock pattern
here in the Keys. The mornings are sunny, and the
afternoons build with thunderstorms.
The water temperature is 85 degrees, and the fish
are primarly feeding in the early mornings, and late
evenings, just before dusk.
The daily temps are in the low 90's, and winds are
light and variable out of the East to Southeast.
Bonefishing is good, in the early morning tides,
and then later in the evenings on the outgoing tide,
and the first part of the incoming.
Permit fishing is fair, with the fall of the tides
in the evening hours also.
We have been using small crabs, and jigs tipped
with shrimp. A delicatable dinner for those tailing
bones, and in the channels for the permit.
Using 2/0 hooks, and 1/8 to 1/4 jigs for the permit,
tipped with shrimp. Your presentation is important
to atrract these elusive fish.
Some Tarpon are still here, but they to have thinned
out as our Summer season progresses, with the residential
tarpon being still caught the bridges and channels.
Flyfishing has been good, on the outgoing tides
on the outside of the flats.
We have been fishing the channels and caught and
released several groupers, yellowtail snapper, jack
crevelle, and finished out a great morning.
Also want to give a special Congratulations to,
James Goodmen, he caught his first bonefish, and
released him for another day of fishing, a nice 9lb
bonefish on fly with me. We were using a crab fly
pattern and he nailed it perfectly with the school
coming upon us, and had a 30 minute fight, and manevered
him like a pro!
What a great fight, and thrill to watch him bring
in this beautiful fish, blue and purple tail, and
dorsel fin, illuminated with such beauty. And released
for another day!
I have had alot of anglers here in the Florida Keys
with their Families. I have had a great experience
with them all.
Many were here to challenge the Giant Silver King,
aka Tarpon, and Bonefish, and others were here to
experience the Great Many Saltwater Gamefish we offer.
So see whether you choose to go Flats fishing for
our elusive Bonefish, or Powerful Permit, and/or
those Giant Silver Kings, aka Tarpon, you will sure
be surprised to find what is at the other end of
your rod.
Other angles are finding their ways into the Backcountry
of Everglades National Park, or even Offshore to
challenge the deep water species.
Whichever you decide to experience, it all has been
an exciting and great way to spend a day with the
family or with your friends, wife, or girlfriend.
All I can say is the fishing has been at its best,
and challenging anglers to all aspects of fishing.
Backcountry fishing has had a favorable bite, with
redfish, the fish liking the deeper channels, and
in the morning hanging onto the flats for feeding.
Trout fishing has been good, and snook fishing has
been fair in the early morning hours and evening
hours feeding at the bridges, and channels.
Offshore anglers have heated up catching up limits
of dolphin, our imfamous mahi- mahi, limiting out
on yellowtail, and catching some beautiful king makerals.
So your fishing is not limited to anyone species.
Spring will definitely heat up for all anglers challenging
their skills on all species.
Whether your flyfishing for bonefish, tarpon, permit,
redfish, or light tackle fishing for the same species,
the effect will have you hooked for years to come,
and where else but, Paradise, can we achieve such
tremendous catches and releases.
What a great way to enjoy the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous Florida Keys!
As I said with the water and weather warming back
up to the mid and lower 80's, and the water temp
is in the 80's, these elusive gray ghosts, aka bonefish
will get your heart pumping with their initial runs
of 150 yards definitely put the twinkle in the anglers
eyes after they have challenged these elusive fish.
You definitely get the fever for these incredible
fish.
Reminder to all anglers that Snook Season closed
as of Dec. 15th-Jan. 31st, and June, July, and August,
but, don't forget we can stil fish the closed season,
and fish when snook season reopens, so be ready!
Opening Season for Snook season, reopens on September
1st. Many anglers are booking fishing trips in Sept.
to travel the backcountry in Everglades National
Park to fish for these beautiful and powerful fish,
and enjoy the trip with some beautiful bird watching
also, and seeing the many islands, dolphins and other
wildlife to be had back there.
So before heading back into the backcountry in Everglades
National Park, don't forget your cameras to take
some grand pictures of some of the most intriguing
birds, and of course the fish of the day you caught.
The Tarpon season is coming to a close, so for fishing
in the offseason, its a great time to beat the crowds,
and having the opportunity to fish with what our
seasonal anglers come for in the Prime months. Prices
are low, and the fishing is not bad, all you have
to do is call up and make sure you get the bookings
that you are looking for, and don't forget an evening
trip is Great too, and what a good way to see our
Fabulous Sunsets. Bookings can get full, and limited,
so make sure you call in advance, so you too can
experience the wonderful challenge of all species
we have to offer.
But, you can always book for the Season, and I suggest

Fishing Report for July 20th, 2003!
Well, already half done with July, and it has been
a breezy one at that, East winds daily from 15 mph,
early morning rains, and hot afternoons, just enough
to keep you cool until mid-day.
Bonefishing is getting great, later in the evenings
on the outgoing tide, and the first part of the incoming.
Permit fishing is good, with the fall of the tides
in the evening hours also.
We have been using small crabs, and jigs tipped with
shrimp. A delicatable dinner for those tailing bones,
and in the channels for the permit.
Using 2/0 hooks, and 1/8 to 1/4 jigs for the permit,
tipped with shrimp. Your presentation is important
to atrract these elusive fish.
Tarpon are starting to thin out as season progresses,
with the residential tarpon being still caught the
bridges and channels.
Flyfishing has been good, on the outgoing tides on
the outside of the flats.
I would like to say thank you to Steve Grant who came
from California, to flyfish for the elusive bonefish.
We had some tough conditions with wind, and limited
visibility, but saw some fish, but to no avail, couldn't
raise a bonefish to eat.
Also would like to thank Mike and Kathryn Fogg, we
went bonefishing part of the morning, and lost one,
around 10lbs, and spooked a few out and decided to
go fishing for some rod benders.
We went to the channels and caught and released several
grouper, snapper, jack crevelle, and finished out a
great morning.
Also would like to thank Daniel, and David Fogg, we
decided to live bait tarpon, and saw a few rollers,
but couldn't get them to eat.
Also Helen and Jim Posey, we had a good morning of
rod benders, some jack crevelle, snapper, and really
enjoyed having them aboard, hope to see you all next
season.
Also want to give a special Congratulations to, Sam
Wiltes, from New Hampshire, he caught and released
a nice 7lb bonefish on fly with me, last fish of the
day, and he nailed it with a Geen Chartruse Crazy Charlie.
What a great fight, and thrill to watch him bring
in this beautiful fish, blue and purple tail, and dorsel
fin, illuminated with such beauty. And released for
another day!
The weather was a big factor with some all day rains,
and wind, Really hindering the anlger for some good
bites, but wait till next season.
I have had alot of anglers here in the Florida Keys
with their Families. I have had a great experience
with them all.
Many were here to challenge the Giant Silver King,
aka Tarpon, and Bonefish, and others were here to experience
the Great Many Saltwater Gamefish we offer.
So see whether you choose to go Flats fishing for
our elusive Bonefish, or Powerful Permit, and/or those
Giant Silver Kings, aka Tarpon, you will sure be surprised
to find what is at the other end of your rod.
Other angles are finding their ways into the Backcountry
of Everglades National Park, or even Offshore to challenge
the deep water species.
Whichever you decide to experience, it all has been
an exciting and great way to spend a day with the family
or with your friends, wife, or girlfriend. All I can
say is the fishing has been at its best, and challenging
anglers to all aspects of fishing.
Backcountry fishing has had a favorable bite, with
redfish, the fish liking the deeper channels, and in
the morning hanging onto the flats for feeding. Trout
fishing has been good, and snook fishing has been fair
in the early morning hours and evening hours feeding
at the bridges, and channels.
Offshore anglers have heated up catching up limits
of dolphin, our imfamous mahi- mahi, yellowtails, cobias,
wahoos, tuna, and several kingfish, and still catching
sailfish, and some Atlantic Marlin.
So your fishing is not limited to anyone species.
Spring will definitely heat up for all anglers challenging
their skills on all species.
Whether your flyfishing for bonefish, tarpon, permit,
redfish, or light tackle fishing for the same species,
the effect will have you hooked for years to come,
and where else but, Paradise, can we achieve such tremendous
catches and releases.
What a great way to enjoy the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous Florida Keys!
As I said with the water and weather warming back
up to the mid and lower 80's, and the water temp is
in the 80's, these elusive gray ghosts, aka bonefish
will get your heart pumping with their initial runs
of 150 yards definitely put the twinkle in the anglers
eyes after they have challenged these elusive fish.
You definitely get the fever for these incredible
fish.
Reminder to all anglers that Snook Season closed as
of Dec. 15th-Jan. 31st, and June, July, and August,
but, don't forget we can stil fish the closed season,
and fish when snook season reopens, so be ready!
Opening Season for Snook season, reopens on September
1st. Many anglers are booking fishing trips in Sept.
to travel the backcountry in Everglades National Park
to fish for these beautiful and powerful fish, and
enjoy the trip with some beautiful bird watching also,
and seeing the many islands, dolphins and other wildlife
to be had back there.
So before heading back into the backcountry in Everglades
National Park, don't forget your cameras to take some
grand pictures of some of the most intriguing birds,
and of course the fish of the day you caught.
The Tarpon season is coming to a close, so for fishing

and having the opportunity to fish with what our seasonal
anglers come for in the Prime months. Prices are low,
and the fishing is not bad, all you have to do is call

Tight lines, and Keep Reeling, and Hope to See Yah

Capt. Ann Holahan www.boneranger.com
Fishing Report for July 5th, 2003!
Hope you are enjoying your 4th of July Holiday,
and it was a Safe One, and Happy One for you All.
It has been a typical Summer Pattern here in the
Keys, with early morning showers, and late day Thunderstorms.
The winds have been generally out of the East to
Southeast 15-20 mph, for the last week or so.
Fishing has been sporadic with catches and releases
of tarpon. They are still around the bridges and
channels, fishing with pinfish, and crabs, and some
pilchards. Sizes have varied from 50lbs up to 80lbs.
Flyfishing has been good, on the outgoing tides on
the outside of the flats.
Bonefishing has been fair, with some fish being
caught on the outgoing tide, early morning, and coming
back to feed in the early evenings just before dusk.
Permit fishing has been moderate, with a few schools
around the backcountry and oceanside flats.
I would like to say thank you to Charley and Donna
Hardamon, from Colorodo, who came fishing last week.
The weather was a big factor with some all day rains,
and wind, but we did catch and release some snapper,
and broke off a big barracuda, but was not successful
with the tarpon, the weather had jinxed us a bit.
But had fun fishing, and looking forward to seeing
them next season.
Also, a big thanks to Tony and David John Otten
from Toronto, we got a day, that too with the weather
being a bit nasty, got a nice day out of it. But
with gusty winds, kept the bite for tarpon limited.
Thanks for your patience boys. Look forward to fishing
again together.
Also, want to say thanks to Frank Beloitz, he came
down to flyfish for bonefish, and it too was windy,
but did manage to catch and release a 7lb bonefish
in the wind, and safely release him for another fight.
Congrat Frank, your first bonefish, and look forward
to seeing you next tarpon season.
We have had a great season for Tarpon, Bonefish,
and Permit.
We have had alot of flyfishing, and live bait action
for tarpon, and bonefish. Notoriously, the tarpon
fishing has been predominant in the early mornings,
and evening hours.
I have had alot of anglers here in the Florida Keys
with their Families. I have had a great experience
with them all.
Many were here to challenge the Giant Silver King,
aka Tarpon, and Bonefish, and others were here to
experience the Great Many Saltwater Gamefish we offer.
It was a tough go for our anglers this past week
with tropical downpours, and the fish pushing deep
and out of before mid-morning. But, we did hook up
a few sharks, and other species.
So see whether you choose to go Flats fishing for
our elusive Bonefish, or Powerful Permit, and/or
those Giant Silver Kings, aka Tarpon, you will sure
be surprised to find what is at the other end of
your rod.

Trout fishing has been good, and snook fishing has
been fair in the early morning hours and evening
hours feeding at the bridges, and channels.
Flyfishing anglers have been doing well with bonefish,
using Crazy Charlies, and Crab patterns, and have
had decent casts to Permit with the Crab patterns
with some success.
Offshore anglers have heated up catching up limits
of dolphin, our imfamous mahi- mahi, yellowtails,
cobias, wahoos, tuna, and several kingfish, and still
catching sailfish, and some Atlantic Marlin.

| Fishing Report for May 29th, 2003!
Well with the end of May here, the Spring has heated
up, with some very warm Summer like conditions. We
have had a great Spring for Tarpon season, and the
fish are lighting up the waters with some aeiral
leaps, as we expect.
With weather like this, the fishing is fantastic!
We have alot of anglers here in the Florida Keys
with their Families. I have had a great experience
with them all.
Many were here to challenge the Giant Tarpon, and
other were here to experience the Great Many Saltwater
Gamefish we offer. Alot of anglers going to bend
the rod on those Giant Silver Kings, and our Elusive
Bonefish.
I would like to thank Diana and Harold Clements
for their love of fishing the Giant Silver King,
and I had an unexpected morning with my motor, but
fixed, and want to thank them for their patience
and understanding on our last day of fishing.
Also, I had a great father and sons team, Troy Baker
with his 10 year old Elliott, and 15 year old son,
Josh, they caught and released their first saltwater
gamefish, the brother duo, brought in their first
Permit, weighing approximately 40lbs, and had a great
fight of 35-40 minutes, passing off the rod to each
other and really putting some muscle on this fish.
It was a great time, and fun for all of them. I sincerely
hope we can get them back for some more Saltwater
gamefish. Their dad, Troy, was very Proud, and so
was Capt. Ann. Congrats guys.
We too also caught and released some ladyfish, jack
crevelle, snappers, and other species. So, see yah
next season boys!
So see whether you choose to go Flats fishing for
our elusive Bonefish, or Powerful Permit, and/or
those Giant Silver Kings, aka Tarpon, you will sure
be surprised to find what is at the other end of

bite, with the fish liking the deeper channels, and
in the morning hanging onto the flats for feeding.
Redfishing has been good, and snook fishing has been
fair in the early morning hours and evening hours
feeding at the bridges, and channels.
We all know Tarpon Season is here, and the fishing
has been excellent at the bridges, and channels,
and in the backcountry. Feeding on mullet, and pilchards
has been a plus for these power hitters.
We are also getting our flyfishing anglers in for
the Giant Challenge of the Tarpon, and we are using
a variety of Tarpon flies, that seem to producing
fish in ranges of 60lbs plus.
Bonefishing has been excellent on the oceanside
flats, and bayside early morning, and feeding on
the incoming tide eating on live bait shrimp and
crabs.
Permit fishing has been fairly good feeding again
on live bait shrimp and their favorite crabs, also
using jigs tipped with shrimp. Feeding on the wrecks
and oceanside.
Flyfishing anglers have been doing well with bonefish,
using Crazy Charlies, and Crab patterns, and have
had decent casts to Permit with the Crab patterns
with some success.
Offshore anglers have heated up catching up limits
of dolphin, our imfamous mahi- mahi, cobias, wahoos,

So before heading back into the backcountry in Everglades

I would like to thank Erich Gellert, and Adam, and
Charlie, from England for their enthusiasm, and fun
time we had, fishing for the Giant Silver King, we
jumped a few big tarpon, but unfortunately, was a
bit more challenging for the boys, but they did give
it their all. We did bag a nice barracuda though!
Also, I had a great father daughter team, Maggie,
and Andy Long challenged the Giant Silver King, but
couldn't get them to eat! We did have one hook up,
but as they sometimes do, spit the hook!
Also, many thanks to Scott and Pam Maki for their
determination, and fun time we had fishing. Happy
Birthday Scott, hope to see yah next season.
So see whether you choose to go Flats fishing for

has been excellent at the bridges, and channels,
and in the backcountry.
Offshore anglers have heated up catching up limits
of dolphin, our imfamous mahi- mahi, cobias, wahoos,
tuna, and severa kingfish, and catching many sailfish.
As I said with the water and weather warming back
up to the mid and lower 80's, and the water temp
is 76-78 degrees, these elusive gray ghosts, aka
bonefish will get your heart pumping with their initial
runs of 150 yards definitely put the twinkle in the
anglers eyes after they have challenged these elusive
fish.
You definitely get the fever for these incredible
fish.
Reminder to all anglers that Snook Season closed

but, don't forget we can stil fish the closed season,
and fish when snook season reopens, so be ready!

National Park, don't forget your cameras to take

| Fishing Report for April 13th, 2003!
Well Spring is here, and with it some definite Summer
Conditions, with some great fishing ahead, and the
weather cannot get any better than this.
Easter is only a week away, and we still have some
Spring Breakers with us, and Anglers from all over
the United States coming to enjoy the great weather
we have had.
Although we had a cool front go by before this past
weekend, and have had some wind, it has cleared up
really great for some great fishing, so lets go fishing.
We have alot of anglers here in the Florida Keys
for Spring Break, and Families here to experience
the Great Many Saltwater Gamefish we offer. Alot
of anglers going to bend the rod on those Giant Silver
Kings, and our Elusive Bonefish.
I would like to extend a big Congratulations to
Jason Ripley who came down to seek his first tarpon,
and on his first trip to the Fabulous Florida Keys,
caught and released his first Silver King, weighing
in about 40-50lbs, got his wish. The Tarpon jumped
and leaped all over the place, and gave Jason a great
fight, and he finally landed him in about 25 minutes,
but was as powerful and majestic as the Big Guys!
We fished for 4 days, and had quite the array of
species each day being caught and released. Also,
wanted to thank his Dad, Bob Ripley, aka Bunka, caught
and released his first Cobia, putting up a good fight
for "Bunka", fought good and hard on this
powerful offshore species.
That Cobia fought just like a permit, and let me
tell you, Bob had his work cut out for him. The Cobia
was 30lbs plus, and ate on one of the Tarpons favorite
meals, of all Mullet. But, Bob, focused on the Cobia,
and at first we thought he was a big shark, twisting
and turning just like a shark, but once I seen the
white underneath his belly, Bob and I knew it was
a Cobia. Bob, did a great job landing him, and had
Bob on for 30 minutes or so, and we released the
big guy for another day of fighting. Congratulations
Bob, and Jason,
We also had several black tips, and nurse sharks
we caught and released for another day, and had some
tarpon pandering by the boat, but because the water
was still cool from the last of the Month Cold Front,
didn't take the baits, but we did conquer, and boated
a variety of nice fish, and Jason did get his first
tarpon.
Looking forward to having you and your families
back this Fall Bob, and Jason. Thanks for the great
time.
Backcountry fishing has had the trout bite exceptional,
with the fish liking the deeper channels, and in
the morning hanging onto the flats for feeding. Redfishing
has been good, and snook fishing has been fair in
the early morning hours and evening hours feeding
at the bridges, and channels.
We all know Tarpon Season has started, and the fishing
has been excellent at the bridges and in the backcountry.

| Fishing Report for March 17th, 2003!
It has warmed up beyond any expectations, it has
been way above what the normal should be, with warm
afternoons and light winds, has been quite the change
for us versus the cold we have experienced in January,
and part of Feb, so we jumped from Winter right into
the Summer, without any Spring.
But the conditions for fishing has been a favorable
one and the bit has picked up immensely.
In just another month we will be kicking off the
Tarpon Season, but in the few months, Snook Season
reopened, and with the weather giving the Gulf the
much needed warm up, might put the bite on for anglers
for a good fight on fly or light tackle.
The Winter fishing this year as we know has been
unpredictable, and has been cold, and moderate, but
with the waters and winds making the flats waters
cool, but afternoon warmup, has broght the fish back
with the temps, in fashion of summerlike weather,
and warming, the flats fishing is getting better
in the morning when the warm Atlantic waters warm
gradually, and the afternoon bites have been good.
We have had winds out of the East, and SouthEast,
which makes for better feeding for all species. Winds
have been between light and variable, and some days
15 mph, but very fishable days.
If the weather stays with this continutal warming,as
I said, the fishing can only get better and better
for fly and light tackle anglers, for flats and backcountry
fishing.
Offshore fishing is doing great, and hasn't changed
much, with some many catches and releases of wahoo,
sailfish, kingfish, snapper, and grouper.
Whether you choose to fish our elusive bonefish,
or go a day into the backcountry, of Everglades National
Park!
What a great way to enjoy the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous Florida Keys!
We have been stalking the elusive bonefish, and
with the waters warming the way they are, the bones
have been tailing all over the oceanside, and bay
for anglers from light tackle to fly, challenge,
and hook up on these beautiful species.
Within the lasts few weeks, they have been running
in schools both oceanside and bayside in the later
mornings, when the temperatures have warmed the water,
but these beautiful fish have definitely proven their
agility with some terrific runs for anglers and is
truly an experience at how intriguing these fish
are really.
As I said with the water and weather warming back
up to the mid and lower 80's, and the water temp
is 76-78 degrees, these elusive gray ghosts, aka
bonefish will get your heart pumping with their initial
runs of 150 yards definitely put the twinkle in the
anglers eyes after they have challenged these elusive
fish.
You definitely get the fever for these incredible
fish.
Just ask Jed Raskie, and his longtime friend who
fished with me and Jed caught and released his first
bonefish, weighing in at 9lbs, was a wonderful fight,
his fish made several runs of 100 to 150 ft of line,
and Jed was determined not to lose his first fish,
and as I said, you need to listen to your guide,
so you can fight these runners and have a catch and
release, and Jed listened how to fight and bring
this beauty in. He was excited, but I was estatic
for this young man, who is in the Coast Guard Academy,
and I am proud of his passion for fishing, and enthusiasm
for catching and releasing one of the most sought
after gamefish! Great Job, Jed, and look forward
to seeing you again either this Summer or next Season,
so we can get Liam his bonefish too. It was a pleasure
to have you both on board!
I also had another great team, Steve and Steven
Jr, Warren from Ft. Lauderdale on board too, again,
we were bonefishing, and tails were to the right
of us, and left of us, and Steve, Sr, casted to a
tailing fish, which was in the range of 10-12lbs,
and hooked up this big beauty, and it blasted out
of the school, and kept running with the school,
and was there no end for this fish to stop running,
so Steve and tried to slow him down with a few cranks
on the drag, and I noticed we only had about 40 yards
of line less, and I started to palm the reel, sometimes
this slows the fish down, but this big bone was not
stopping for anyone, or anything, so Capt. Ann, was
contemplating whether to turn the drag or let him
spool, now this is not the 1st fish or last fish
that this is going to happen to, but I decided to
click the drag one turn, and then it happened, the
fish broke the 8lb test, and my Captains hat was
hung low. Now, that is the lowest you can feel, when
your angler hooks his first bonefish, and to go with
your gut feeling to slow him down, there was no stopping
him. So, Steve, I am sorry, and he was astonished
to see the fish was either going to spool us, and/or
break off at the spool, so we both determined it
was going to happen anyways, but what a thrill to
see this fish, move and not stop for anything, but
the shrimp! Well, I will see yah both in May for
those elusive Bones, and giant Silver Kings.
We are also getting those fly and light tackle anglers,
coming from all over the World and United States
coming down and pursuing the best Saltwater Gamefishing
Ever!
Reminder to all anglers that Snook Season closed
as of Dec. 15th-Jan. 31st, and June, July, and August,
but, don't forget we can stil fish the closed season,
and fish when snook season reopens, so be ready!
From the opening of Snook Season, which started
on Feb 1st, many anglers travel to the backcountry
in Everglades National Park to fish for these powerful
fish, and enjoy the trip with some beautiful bird
watching also, and seeing the many islands, dolphins
and other wildlife to be had back there.
So before heading back into the backcountry in Everglades
National Park, don't forget your cameras to take
some grand pictures of some of the most intriguing
birds, and of course the fish of the day you caught.
The fishing in the backcountry has been good, with
anglers fishing for snook, redfish, trout, jack crevelle,
ladyfish, snapper, and sharks. The tarpon are even
starting to show up in the backcountry already. That's
great fun, on light tackle and fly, but season is
only a month away, so don't forget to book ahead.
April-July is best for these Giant Silver Kings,
and we offer evening trips for these awesome species,
and bonefishing in the evening is great fun too,
what a way to catch a sunset, and fish too.
Some of the days, we have had some wind, which hampered
the bite, in the backcountry fishing, but reports
of snook in the 8lb range and up, has been reported,
with some great catches of redfish.
We are using live bait shrimp, crabs and jigs on
the extreme high tides we have been experiencing.
Make sure you tip the jigs with a small peice of
shrimp, and watch the action unfold. Bonefish and
permit love to eat these shrimp and it is great to
catch and release these beautiful gamefish.
We are using 8lb to 10lb test on light tackle rods,
and on fly we are using still the Crazy Charlie,
and Klauser Minnow patterns, and of course, the Merkin
Crab flys. It has been most productive.
Permit fishing has been fair, fishing on the outgoing
tides using crabs and jigs tipped with shrimp, on
those great jigs of Hank Brown's, and and the Millie
Bucktails. Using white and tan heads, and I have
also been using the chartruesse green, and white
heads, tipped with shrimp. Those powerful permit
give you a great fight on 20lb test using a 3/0 hook.
Thanks to all the anglers who have come down this
past month to pursue the bones, and hope to see yah
again for the tarpon season. I promise I will get
rid of this pnemonia I have, and hopefully never
experience being that ill again.
With the holidays over, get a jump start on a great
way to treat ones of your loved ones with a gift
certificate to come fishing in the Keys.
I can provide a nice fishing package for anglers
with a nice cover sheet, and certificate for them
to have in their stocking or in a present suited
just for them. So, just drop me and email or give
me a call and we can set that up for you, and it's

Fishing Report for March 2,2003!
It has warmed up as the the normal should
be, with warm afternoons and light winds, has been
quite the change for us versus the cold we have experienced
in January, and part of Feb, so we are already for
some Spring conditions, and the fishing has picked
up immensely.
In just another month we will be kicking
off the Tarpon Season, but in the last month, Snook
Season reopened, and with the weather giving the Gulf
the much needed warm up, might put the bite on for
anglers for a good fight on fly or light tackle.
The Winter fishing this year as we know
has been unpredictable, and has been cold, and moderate,
but with the waters and winds making the flats waters
cool, but afternoon warmup, has broght the fish back
with the temps, in fashion of summerlike weather, and
warming, the flats fishing is getting better in the
morning when the warm Atlantic waters warm gradually,
and the afternoon bites have been good.
We have had winds out of the East, and
SouthEast, which makes for better feeding for all species.
Winds have been between light and variable, and some
days 15 mph, but very fishable days.
If the weather stays with this continutal
warming,as I said, the fishing can only get better
and better for fly and light tackle anglers, for flats
and backcountry fishing.
Offshore fishing is doing great, and
hasn't changed much, with some many catches and releases
of wahoo, sailfish, kingfish, snapper, and grouper.
Whether you choose to fish our elusive
bonefish, or go a day into the backcountry, of Everglades
National Park!
What a great way to enjoy the beauty
of the island chains here in the Fabulous Florida Keys!
We have been stalking the elusive bonefish,
and with the waters being still a bit cool, the flats
are warming later in the morning, and has been a bit
better as these warm weeks go on. Within the lasts
few weeks, they have been running in schools both oceanside
and bayside in the later mornings, when the temperatures
have warmed the water, but these beautiful fish have
definitely proven their agility with some terrific
runs for anglers and is truly an experience at how
intriguing these fish are really.
As I said with the water and weather
warming back up to the 70's and some days are in the
80's, these elusive gray ghosts, bonefish will get
your heart pumping with their initial runs of 150 yards
definitely put the twinkle in the anglers eyes after
they have challenged these elusive fish.
You definitely get the fever for these
incredible fish.
We are getting those fly and light tackle
anglers, coming from all over the World and United
States coming down and pursuing the best Saltwater
Gamefishing Ever!
Reminder to all anglers that Snook Season
closed as of Dec. 15th-Jan. 31st, and June, July, and
August, but, don't forget we can stil fish the closed
season, and fish when snook season reopens, so be ready!
From the opening of Snook Season, which
started on Feb 1st, many anglers travel to the backcountry
in Everglades National Park to fish for these powerful
fish, and enjoy the trip with some beautiful bird watching
also, and seeing the many islands, dolphins and other
wildlife to be had back there.
So before heading back into the backcountry
in Everglades National Park, don't forget your cameras
to take some grand pictures of some of the most intriguing
birds, and of course the fish of the day you caught.
The fishing in the backcountry has been
good, with anglers fishing for snook, redfish, trout,
jack crevelle, ladyfish, snapper, and sharks. The tarpon
are even starting to show up in the backcountry already.
That's great fun, on light tackle and fly, but season
is only a month away, so don't forget to book ahead.
April-July is best for these Giant Silver Kings, and
we offer evening trips for these awesome species, and
bonefishing in the evening is great fun too, what a
way to catch a sunset, and fish too.
Some of the days, we have had some wind,
which hampered the bite, in the backcountry fishing,
but reports of snook in the 8lb range and up, has been
reported, with some great catches of redfish.
We are using live bait shrimp, crabs
and jigs on the extreme high tides we have been experiencing.
Make sure you tip the jigs with a small peice of shrimp,
and watch the action unfold. Bonefish and permit love
to eat these shrimp and it is great to catch and release
these beautiful gamefish.
We are using 8lb to 10lb test on light
tackle rods, and on fly we are using still the Crazy
Charlie, and Klauser Minnow patterns, and of course,
the Merkin Crab flys. It has been most productive.
Permit fishing has been fair, fishing
on the outgoing tides using crabs and jigs tipped with
shrimp, on those great jigs of Hank Brown's, and and
the Millie Bucktails. Using white and tan heads, and
I have also been using the chartruesse green, and white
heads, tipped with shrimp. Those powerful permit give
you a great fight on 20lb test using a 3/0 hook.
I would like to make a special thanks
to Bill and Sue Johnson, and Oscar and Kathy Gonzales,
we had such a great time of fishing, although the weather
was cool when they were here, we did get to put a day
in for some fish. Also, good going Bill for his first
permit, it was small, but yet a permit on 8lb test,
and Susan caught and released several ladyfish, and
jack crevelles.
I personally want to thank Kathy and
Oscar Gonzales, Kathy caught a 5ft. barracuda on light
tackle, which is unusual for them to stay on monofiliment
that light, but she stuck to her guns, and had several
leaps and runs, but unfortunately, we lost it at the
boat, but don't forget her charm Oscar, she did land
it to the boat!
Thanks to all the anglers who have come
down this past month to pursue the bones, and hope
to see yah again for the tarpon season. I promise I
will get rid of this pnemonia I have, and hopefully
never experience being that ill again.

Fishing Report for January 28th, 2003!
Well, all I can say is
Brrr! It has been like
winter here in the Keys
these past few weeks with
cold mornings, and windy
conditions, making fishing
a bit challenging, and rough.
Can you believe that
we are already into Feb
almost, and soon it
will be Tarpon Season,
but in the nest few days
Snook Season reopens, and
with the weather slightly
warming up, might put the
bite on for anglers for
a good fight on fly or
light tackle.
The Winter fishing has been
good, to moderate, and with
the waters and winds be cooler
than usual, the flats fishing
is better later in the morning
when the warm Atlantic waters
warm gradually. The winds
have been a bit continuous
of 15-20mph.
With the warming days upcoming,
the fishing can only get better
for flats and backcountry fishing.
Offshore fishing is doing
great with some many catches
and releases of wahoo, sailfish,
kingfish, snapper, and grouper.
Whether you choose to fish
our elusive bonefish, or go
a day into the backcountry,
of Everglades National Park!
What a great way to enjoy
the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous
Florida Keys!
We have been stalking the
elusive bonefish, and with
the waters being very cold,
it has been very poor on
the bonefishing side, there
has been a few caught and
released in the late afternoon,
but with these cold fronts
it's putting them into deeper
waters and feeding on the
warming trends.
Within the lasts few weeks,
they have been running in
schools both oceanside and
bayside in the later mornings,
when the temperatures have
warmed the water, but these
beautiful fish have definitely
proven their agility with some
terrific runs for anglers and

Reminder to all anglers that
Snook Season closed as of Dec.
15th-Jan. 31st. But, don't
forget Febuary 1st, snook
season reopens, so be ready!
You can still fish for this
awesome species, being it's
still closed for the season,
but you will not be able to keep

From the opening of Snook

the backcountry in Everglades

with some beautiful bird watching
also, and seeing the many islands,

So before heading back into the
backcountry in Everglades National

take some grand pictures of some of
the most intriguing birds, and of
course the fish of the day you caught.
The fishing in the backcountry
has been good, with anglers fishing for
snook, redfish, trout, jack crevelle,
ladyfish, snapper, and sharks.
Some of the days, we have had
some wind, which hampered a bit
of the backcountry fishing, but
reports of snook in the 8lb range
and up, has been reported, with
great catches of redfish.
We have had several cold fronts
in the last few weeks, and
the winds have been primarly
out of NorthWest, North, and
Northeast at 10-15 mph. Which makes
for a bit of a bumpy ride
on the water, but still
able to get you out to fish.
We are using live bait shrimp,
crabs and jigs on the extreme
high tides we have been experiencing.
Make sure you tip the jigs with
a small peice of shrimp, and watch
the action unfold. Bonefish and
permit love to eat these

Fishing Report for January 8th 2003!
Well, Can you believe that
it is already a New Year!
Hope your Holidays were great
for all your anglers.
May your New Years be a
Happy and Prosperous One.
The Winter fishing has been
good, to moderate, and with
the waters and winds be cooler
than usual, the flats fishing
is better latter in the morning
when the warm Atlantic waters
warm gradually. The winds
have been a bit continuous
of 10-15mph.
With the warming days upcoming,
the fishing can only get better
for flats and backcountry fishing.
Offshore fishing is doing
great with some many catches
and releases of wahoo, sailfish,
kingfish, snapper, and grouper.
Whether you choose to fish
our elusive bonefish, or go
a day into the backcountry,
of Everglades National Park!
What a great way to enjoy
the beauty of the island
chains here in the Fabulous
Florida Keys!
We have been stalking the
elusive bonefish, and in
within the lasts few weeks,
they have been running in
schools both oceanside and
bayside in the later mornings,
when the temperatures have
warmed the water, but these
beautiful fish have definitely
proven their agility with some
terrific runs for anglers and
is truly an experience at how
intriguing these fish are really.
With a some catches and
releases, and some misses,
of the bonefish on fly and
light tackle, the patience
for the beautiful gray ghosts,
can be a bit mistifying, but is
a choice species in the gamefish
for all types of anglers.
Bonefish have been in ranges
of 5lba up to 10lbs. These
fish are the most diligent
of all the gamefish. Their
initial runs of 150 yards
definitely put the twinkle
in the anglers eyes after
they have challenged these
elusive fish.
You definitely get the fever
for these incredible fish.
We are getting those fly
and light tackle anglers,
coming from all over the
World and United States
coming down and pursuing
the best Saltwater Gamefishing
Ever!
Reminder to all anglers that
Snook Season closed as of Dec.
15th-Jan. 31st. But, don't
forget Febuary 1st, snook
season reopens, so be ready!
You can still fish for this
awesome species, being it's
still closed for the season,
but you will not be able to keep
them.
From the opening of Snook
Season, which started on September
1st, many anglers travel to
the backcountry in Everglades
National Park to fish for these
powerful fish, and enjoy the trip
with some beautiful bird watching
also, and seeing the many islands,
dolphins and other wildlife to be
had back there.
So before heading back into the
backcountry in Everglades National
Park, don't forget your cameras to
take some grand pictures of some of
the most intriguing birds, and of
course the fish of the day you caught.
The fishing in the backcountry
has been good, with anglers fishing for
snook, redfish, trout, jack crevelle,
ladyfish, snapper, and sharks.
Some of the days, we have had
some wind, which hampered a bit
of the backcountry fishing, but
reports of snook in the 8lb range
and up, has been reported, with
great catches of redfish.
You couldn't ask for better weather
for fishing whether on fly or light tackle.
We have had several cold fronts
in the last few weeks, and
the winds have been primarly
out of NorthWest, North, and
Northeast at 10-15 mph. Which makes
for a bit of a bumpy ride
on the water, but still
able to get you out to fish.
We are using live bait shrimp,
crabs and jigs on the extreme
high tides we have been experiencing.
Make sure you tip the jigs with
a small peice of shrimp, and watch
the action unfold. Bonefish and
permit love to eat these
shrimp and it is great to
catch and release these
beautiful gamefish.
We are using 8lb to 10lb test
on light tackle rods, and on
fly we are using still the
Crazy Charlie, and Klauser Minnow
patterns, and of course, the
Merkin Crab flys. It has been most
productive.
Permit fishing has been fair,
fishing on the outgoing tides
using crabs and jigs tipped
with shrimp, on those great
jigs of Hank Brown's, and
and the Millie Bucktails.
Using white and tan heads,
and I have also been
using the chartruesse
green, and white heads, tipped
with shrimp. Those powerful
permit give you a great fight
on 20lb test using a 3/0 hook.
Thanks to all the anglers who have
come down this past month
to pursue the bones, and hope
to see yah again for the tarpon
season.
With the holidays over,
get a jump start on
a great way to treat
ones of your loved ones
with a gift certificate
to come fishing in the Keys.
I can provide a nice fishing
package for anglers with a
nice cover sheet, and certificate
for them to have in their stocking
or in a present suited just for
them. So, just drop me and
email or give me a call and
we can set that up for you,
and it's even great for the
upcoming New Year's also.
I am sure you will see many
happy faces and you will be
giving them memories of a
lifetime to treasure.
Also, don't forget to check
out my new Fall Value Fishing
